ORIGINAL: Mynok Sorry to hear about your son, USS. Hopefully the injustice will be rectified somehow. Please let me join in the commiserations, USS. It always hurt like heck whenever I saw my kids getting the flying purple shaft, particularly as I felt so helpless to do anything about it (I had a strong aversion to the "angry parent" thing, as I'm sure you do, too). When my son was in eighth grade, I had to get him to baseball practice by 3:30 p.m. (I was a single parent, my wife having died of cancer a few years before). Problem was, I got off work at that same time, and my hardass employer refused to let me flex my hours so that I could take care of "unnecessary" family business. I finally arranged to have a neighbor give him a ride, but by then, he had been benched for being chronically late for practice. Sigh. Then, in his senior year in high school, he basically picked up his baseball team and carried it on his shoulders to the state championship with astonishing pitching, hitting and fielding performances. He got honorable mention All-State. Then, the big city newspaper came out with its "Prep Athlete of the Week" award. Sonny finished second to a kid who played "adapted floor hockey." I'm sure glad I'm not there anymore, old pal, and I don't envy your or your son's situation, but I can sure empathize. Best wishes to you both (and to the rest of your family, who I am sure are trying to cope with it, too).
