Anyways, got home from vacation on Sunday and have been playing ever since. However I have a million questions, which I will now ask a few of them.

1.) Can you not target enemy TF with a CV TF using Naval Attack commands? Everytime I try to it says, cannot target enemy TF. Am I doing something wrong?

2.) Im trying to load units of an American Division on APs for transport. I added up the total cost of transport which came out to 14,130 so I alloted 6 transports(manualy made TF) worth 15,000 cargo to carry these troops. However afterwards I see that various APDs have been added to this convoy. Why???? I don't want these SPDs and there limited endurance in this convoy that has a long way to go.

3.) What is the best method for landing tropps via naval transports into a hot LZ?(Simulating a beach assualt) How are LCIs and such used if they have limited range in such an operation?

4.) How are Seaplane tenders best used?

5.) On TF breakdown screen what does Ops represent, some have such and such number while other ships have 0.

6.) Help me understand what they are and how to use these ships: Collier, Cargo Ship, Oiler, Patrol Gunboat, Tanker. Explain their roles please as I am confused on how to best use them.

Thank you for your time.

1) No you cant...Just move your force toward that hex that the TF in question resides and your commander of your TF will probably attack. Make sure he has a high aggressive rating to increase the likelyhood.

2) Are you sure you didn't accidentally click on the apd when additing ships to your newly formed TF? I know occassionally I accidentally click on the wrong ship.

3) Depends on what is making that landing zone hot. I will say, that if youre moving a long distance, then stick a tanker (TK) or a fleet oiler (AO) into the transport TF. As long as you loaded the tanker with fuel cargo, it will resupply automatically all ships in the same hex with it, thus increasing the distance they can go.

Aircombat, surface combat, and bombardment task forces hitting the landing zone before your transport TF's are usually a good way to keep them safer. You might even want to assign an air combat TF a follow mission and have it follow the transport TF for continuous CAP.

4) Best used in areas where your land based search planes can not reach.

5) Ops represent operation points. For instance, if you have told a TF to refuel at port, it will take time to do this. So when the turn button is pushed, if that same TF was given an order to move to a different port, it won't move right away because some of the time was 'spent' refueling. Thus in game turns, on that particular turn, the TF won't move as far because some of it's moving time was actually spent refueling. I think 1000 op points spent means the entire time was spent on 1 or more ships doing something and the TF will only move space. (all TF's can move a minimum of 1 space no matter what as per the rules of the game)

6)

Collier Small surface boat used to defend/attack subs mostly. Its a short range boat. Use it if you see a sub close by and make a surface TF with these and go to the hex with the sub.

Cargo ship Moves supplies fuel to bases so that units at those bases can operate. Fuel for ships, supplies for planes/ship ammo/ground units/base expansion

Oiler Moves fuel to bases or ships in a TF

Patrol Gunboat Short range boat that is used in surface combat. Think of Motor Torpedo boats or PT boats.

Tanker In game terms, same as Oiler.

No, you cannot target a CV TF with your CV TF. Those decision to attack are made by your CV TF commander... so make sure when your CV TF is in port, select a very good CV commander such as M Mitscher for the Americans.
4.) How are Seaplane tenders best used?
Send the tender to the desired location (like those level 0 bases). Generally use a transport TF, but it doesn't really matter. Throw some supplies in. Then select the floatplane unit (from the tender or any other floatplanes) and transfer it to the base the tender is at. You don't need base units because the tender provides it. If you look at the base display, the air support will say something like 0+9, meaning the tender is providing the support. You can also dock them in friendly ports to support seaplanes (floatplanes & patrol). Thus having seaplanes from relying on the base aviation support, thus freeing up the extra regular support for more land-based planes. Make sure you dock the Tender so it doesn't run out of fuel. And be sure to return your planes before you leave, otherwise any damaged planes get left behind.

You don't need to restrict yourself to the Tender's planes (if any); you can support PBY's or grab the floatplanes off a cruiser or battleship.
5.) On TF breakdown screen what does Ops represent, some have such and such number while other ships have 0.
Ops stands for Operation Points. Operation points reflect the time spent on refueling, replenishing ammo, loand and unloading cargo. These actions reduce the movement of a TF during resolution phase. A TF has 1000 Operation Points in each 12 hour resolution phase. If a TF with a ship refuels and that ship shows it has used 300 Operation Points, 30% of the 12 hours (300/1000) has been expended. This meas that the TF movement will be reduced by 30% for the 12 hour resolution phase. A TF will always be allowed to move 1 hex.

I aprreciate your reply. And I am sure that i didn't accidentaly insert the APDs into the group. I had 6 APs set, and after hitting done, I had an extra set of APDs inserted somehow.

Most likely you had one unit that would not fit right into one of the APs, and therefore took it more space than you anticipated. The numbers you gave indicate so. You should always leave considerable space for supplies for the troops, especially if your dropping them off in a hot zone. The computer will add APDs if there are any in the port to make enough room for the addtional troops you requested. I have noticed this, although it is not stated in the manual.
