ORIGINAL: bobogoboom were you ever in the military bob? No... at one time (around 1967, iirc) i was actually trying to get in (still in high school)... i went down to the local naval base (we had one at the time, long since closed) trying to get details on a specific program with my dad, who had been in the navy during WW2... we got this huge runaround: one guy told us to see someone, who told us to see someone else, who told us to see someone else... this went on for 2 hours, and we were finally told to see the first guy we had seen... At this point, we left... as we were walking out to the car, me feeling rather disgusted, my father started laughing... i asked him why, and he replied "The Navy hasn't changed a bit in 20 years!" At that point, i got a real sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach and decided perhaps such a, er, messed up organization wasn't exactly my cup of tea, and decided to desist in further efforts to enroll... The draft rolled around and could have scooped me up for the very tail end of the Vietnam War (i was a relatively poor kid, and didn't have the inclination to fight an induction notice)... i suppose i could have ended up in Vietnam in 1971 if i hadn't drawn a lottery number of 316, but they had already started to draw down troops so i am not sure how likely i would have been to go there.
