System damage, I have seen as much as 17% system damage to a CV in one week, it had flown combat missions but never been attacked. If WWII carriers were that un-reliable the Japs would never had made to attack Pearl Harbor. Maybe system damage should be limited to 10% for none combat damage.

Is the system damage random?

Do ships repair faster sitting in TF in port, or disbanded? In the current game I'm playing the ships seem to repair faster if they are part of a TF in port.

Hi, in gathering your 17percent system damage in one week, how fast was the TF moving (max range every day or just steaming normaly) I have never received that much in one week, but something like a main reduction gear would be over 10 percent.
I have put 6-8 percent damage on ships from moving max distance 2-3 days in row. I wonder if weather has an effect on damage. (going fast in rough seas would be worse then calm)
Prehaps a plane crashed on flight deck?

The TF moved from south of Lunga, refueled in Cains and then east of Port Morsby.
The weather that week was rain every day that week. It had 2% system damage when it left it's station south of Lunga.

Do historically unreliable ships, like the USN S-Boats during this period due to age, suffer greater levels of system damage than more capable ships? If so, this might go a long way towards limiting the often posted success rates of USN submarines in UV.

Those S-Boat skippers were more often battling breakdowns than the IJN.;)

The manual says that disbanded ships repair faster than if left in a TF in port. Hopefully this is true as I have been disbanding to repair damage.

I have a couple questions I couldn't find elsewhare on the forum, sorry if these were addressed earlier:

1. Is system repair constant or random for a given size port? If it is constant what is the repair rate?

2. Is each point harder or easier to repair based on total damage? (ie is it easier to repair one point of damage if you only have 10 total instead of 30?)

3. Will ships repair faster if there are fewer at the port? IOW does it buy me any time getting my CVs fixed if I don't have a lot of other damaged ships being worked on at the same port at the same time?

thanks.

Mike,
I have those same questions!! In other games I have seen the more ships the slower repair but I don't know about UV.
I have a damged CA in Brisbane port size 9 and a damaged CA and CL in Cairns port size 6 there are no other damged ships in these ports. Cairns is repairing the 2 damaged ships faster than Brisbane is the one. They all three had SYS dmg at 40+ and the CL had FL dmg at 36. Now Cairns ships are at 18 and 10 Sys dmg while the Brisbane ship is still at 38 Sys dmg. I don't understand why:confused:
There are ample support groups in both ports (Brisbane has 3 times as many as Cairns)
Does anybody have any answers??

Some details on this would be very helpful. The manual is pretty decent for game play, but sure lacks on the "mechanics" if you will.

For what it's worth, I too have seen quite a bit of sys damage on short cruises. A CV TF from Noumea up to around "The Slot" refueling at sea and launching a couple air atacks afainst some AP and escorts at around north of Lunga got me about 12 on one CV and 14 on another. No enemy action, just what I stated above. It seems typical for DDs so far to pick up 10 - 12 points just cruising around.
