Ok, I decided to leave my fictional league for awhile and started historical league in 1948, the year I was born. No finances, early entry and 50 man rosters. I chose the Washington Nationals for my team. seventh place finnish in 1947. I think they won 57 games in 1947. Very poor team. First game we played was against the Yankees and lost 6 to 2. Then I thought of KG. I asked the Yanks if they would trade DiMaggio and they said yes for right fielder Carden Gallenwater. The deal was done. Then I asked in seperate deals if they would trade Tommy Henrich and Billy Johnson. We sent center fielder Sherry Robertson for Henrich and pitcher Forrest Thompson for Johnson. A week later we asked the Braves what they wanted for 3rd baseman Bob Elliott? Billy Johnson went to the Braves. We asked for Johnny Logan and the Braves wanted pitcher Earl Harrist, to which we agreed to . We signed free Agents, pitchers Rip Sewell (37 years old), 23 year old Don Liddle and 1st baseman Pete Runnels. Sent down Liddle and made Sewell our #3 starter. Two days later we shopped CF/RF Tom Mcbride around and the Red Sox offered 3B/1B Billy Goodman. We took their offer. We also signed free agent pitchers Mickey McDermott (19) and Ray Moore (22). Both were sent to the minors. As of May 16th we are 15 - 14. How ever, Henrich ( injured May 4th) is on the D/L list for 3 more weeks, pitcher Sid Hudson can return in 3 days, pitcher Walt Masterson has 8 days to go and right fielder Gil Coan will miss 8 weeks. Pitching staff has: starters; Rip Sewell, Ray Scarborough, Early Wynn and Joe Dobson. Bullpen includes; Russ Christopher, Mickey Haefner, Milo Candini, Don Liddle ( promoted May 1st), Loyd Hittle, Jim Pearce and Dick Welteroth. Starting line up has: Al Kozar,2B; Bud Stewart, LF; Joe Dimaggio, CF; Bob Elliott, 3B; Birdie Tebetts, C; Mickey Vernon, 1B; Eddie Yost, SS and Irv Noren, Rf. Not a bad start for a Washington team. As you guys know, I'm not very good at keeping these post going. KG, once Henrich is back I'll have an all former Yankee outfield.
