Just finished my first full read of the AE manual, and the new son of WitP (AE) is looking pretty good to me. While the TF loading and damage ship repair look a lot more complicated, I especially like the look of the air war. While it looks that Allied uber-cap is no longer a viable tactic, it also appears that those torpedo-toting Betty/Nells will not be all as deadly as they were in WitP.

Also I’d like to cheer-up all fellow AFBs while waiting for AE with this Pic of Betty’s getting their comebacks.

Miss Betty and Miss Nell can still be lethal, just not uber-lethal like before. The big restraining factor is torpedo supply, as it should be.

I've been play testing the gold build and Bettys and Nells are still a pest. Not as bad as stock, but you don't want to wander too close to one of their bases. I'm getting to a point where putting up much of a naval fight in the DEI is too costly. The Bettys keep attacking my TFs. I just had the PoW torpedoed moving her from one base to another.

I find the loading issues aren't too bad once you get used to them. I find having small AKs around is a good thing to keep those small bases supplied.

The tools for managing ships under repair make it fairly easy. You need to think ahead though. If you want to put a ship that's offline back in service, it will take a couple of days. Days you may not have if the enemy is closing in.

Bill,

I think that the point is that you can at least use PoW in the SRA in AE whereas in WitP Allied BBs had to move out of Betty range of Saigon on Dec. 8th and usually out of Betty range of Kuching on Dec. 9th. Im hoping that I can actually use PoW and Repulse in the SRA during the first week of the war instead of evacuating at full speed under fighter escort.

So what happened historically? did POW and Repulse survived in real life?

Well if you order PoW and Repulse to oppose landings off Khota Bharu you deserve to lose them.

I'm going to work very hard to prevent this from happening.

I'll just load chaff dispensers full of catnip and the wildcats will nosedive straight to the ocean after it.
