I'm playing as the Japanese (for once) in Scen. 17. I finally got around to invading PM in early August, and I managed to catch about 4 Allied resupply and troop convoys also heading there.

It turned out that 60k troops was about what they had there, so I went back for more. As there wasn't much in the way of LBA left in PM, and I've sunk at least 4 US CV's, so I tasked my CV's as cover for the 2nd invasion fleet.

Well, when they got there, my CAP started intercepting C-47's on resupply to PM. Ok, fine by me, they're getting low on supplies. The interceptions didn't quit. On and on. I finally got sick of watching, so I went to go get some food and whatnot, and have a cigarette. That was ten minutes. My CAP was still doing interceptions when I got back! I don't have a clue how many C-47's were shot down, but I couldn't stop laughing for quite a while! :D

Ok, now it's just annoying. I've played precisely two turns since the one last posted. Every turn, my guys shoot down at least 70 C-47's and B-24's. It's almost unplayable, even with the proper message delay turned all the way down. Arrrggghhh!

On a side note,

YES I've heard other people mention about this oversight in the combat replay/reporting system where shooting down supply or troop carrying transports will cause inordinate delays in the completion of the replay. I'm sure Matrix will be fixing that.

Really? The delay itself isn't terrible. It's the sheer number of a/c that are being thrown at the place (and getting shot down) that makes it take forever.

A fix would be welcome, though. I can't bear another half hour turn. :)

It is the number that causes the problem, and crops up when a base is otherwise cut off from resupply, from what I have observed.

Unlike the Japanese, the Americans have the Dakota, which is a viable troop movement and supply platform. The AI for the American side is programmed to utilize this resource. Since you cut off PM, the Americans are using all of their Dakotas to keep the 70K men they have there supplied. So they will send everything they have there to do it, resulting in large numbers of these "individual" combats that are reported line by line in the combat replay.

The only thing I can suggest is to either not fly cap over PM and circumvent the problem altogether, OR try setting all delays in the options to zero and see if that does anything.

For some reason hitting "z" will speed you through this. There was a thread a few days back.

Hi, It would be best if like bombers delivering aload to target, transports were displayed and resolved the same. However a bomber has to maintain a certian course and speed to bomb while the transports try to evade. I think it is this that makes the rsolution take so long. When you see it is transports just click the done button.

dgaad,

Thanks for the clarification. My message and report settings are as low as they go. I'm an impatient guy. :p

Caltone,

Much appreciated! Off to try that right now. :)

No done button to click. It resolves independently and the results are displayed in the little info box in the bottom left corner. To click it away would be ideal. :)

Hi, OK I am snookered tonight, but from your response I recall what you are referring to. (those little blue and yellow notes)
I agree that is a pain in the butt, But as before it is the result of each pilot trying to evade. It needs a "done" button

Hello...

You can hit the "z" key to speed through it. It is speeded up in a way. You don't have to sit through a combat screen for each of these squadrons.

Seems a little odd for a complaint. At the rate you are shooting them down, they will run out soon. And, that is good.

Bye...

Howdy, I never zoom through combat. If it's the bad guys attacking me I watch to see if can learn anything of benifit to prevent the next one. If it;s me.....well I save the replay and watch it again after I send the turn.

*SIGH* (Finally! :))

Well, three months later to the day, I took PM. 100k troops vs. their 60k. I understand why you think it odd, but they never ran out. C-47's, then B-24's, then B-17's, then B-25's, then B-26's, over and over, every single day. My best estimate is over 700 a/c shot down on resupply. The "z" button works, but it still takes about 2-4 extra minutes, depending on how many there are to kill that day. It does become a bit of a chore. :)

Mogami,

I agree, a done button would be very welcome. Also, even the best of us needs a bit of a break. I've been playing quite a bit too, and I feel the need to "unwind" a bit myself. :)

dgaad when you say :

I take it you are aware of the Japanese L2D? ;)

Production: Including the two L2D1s assembled from Douglas-built parts, a total of 487 L2Ds were built by Showa Hikoki Kogyo K. K. and Nakajima Hikoki K.K.

PS This is posted in ignorance on my part though as I don't as yet own the game and so don't know if the IJNAF or IJAF have the L2D actually available in the game. :D

Hrmm, I should have read this before I posted my air transport intercept thread! or work well at speeding through the messages. I suppose the IJN and IJA have less transports to throw at my waiting CAP so I wasn't worried about the time it took!
