Hi guys,

Sorry for the intrusion but I'm thinking of buying WiTP and would like a bit of feedback and advice before committing to an order.

I've been playing Gary Grigsby's Pacific War on and off for years and so I am quite keen to get an more up to date remake with a few more bells and whistles. However, a few years ago I bought Uncommon Valour and hated it. So, I'm a little bit cautious about wasting more money and thought I'd try and find out from you chaps whether WiTP is closer to the Pacific War, than Uncommon Valour in design.

The thing that I hated about UV was simply that I felt too detached from the command aspects of the game. In particular the inablility to target air strikes really frustrated me, as did the need to micro manage supplies. It seemed to me that UV expected me to play as a fleet chief in charge of logistic's rather than an Admiral. So, I quickly shelved the game and forgot about it.

Can anyone assure me that WiTP is different in this respect and more like Pacific War to play?

WitP is UV on sterioids.

Or....

UV is chess, an 8 x 8 board with 32 pieces.

WitP is a 1000 x 1000 x 1000 chessboard (three dimensions) with 200,000 pieces.

Logistics is even more important in WitP.

WitP is 1,000 times more fun than UV, but if you didn't like UV for the reasons you state, then I doubt you'll like WitP.

Looks like you're out of luck Didz, while you can target LCU's and bases, not TF's. This is a detailed game about logistics, organising what is available and Island hopping across the expanse of the Pacific Theatre ... even if it is a see-saw.

IIRC even Pac War didn't allow you to target TF's although Carrier Strike did, but it has been a long time since I played it .

This game may not be your cup of tea, but for me it is my bread and butter... UV is WITP's little sister, and AE is built upon WITP's engine, AE will bring another layer of immersion..

Don't let me put you off though, buy it if you dare or at least have a look at the manual in the members section.

It's not. Don't buy AE if you didn't like UV.

I'm with the other guys, if you you didn't like UV, Leave your credit card in your wallet.
Take a look at Carriers at War. It's a tactical game, quick to play and fun. It's a matrix remake of an old SSG favorite.

Ok! thanks guys that answered my concerns. Looks like its best to stick with Pacific War.

I'm really not into logistic's management, thats what I employ a chief of staff for.
