The "S"-tank yes ... I agree that it was cool looking, but we didn't call it "the hydrualic bathtub" without reason

Which fighter are you thinking of?

Ah yes, it´s a beauty. My vote for coolest looking fighter would be a lock between the F4U and the F-14 though.

*rofl* - and this is no exageration!
We were indeed something like a "all-in-one device suitable for every purpose". We had a para drop unit, Spähpanzer Luchs, Panzeraufklärungsradar Rasit, Leopard 2 and were a mountain unit. The only thing missing was amphibious assault
Nowadays: No more paras, no more Leopard 2, no more Luchs (a bad monster!) - only Fennek.

Our Leopard 2s were sold for 8.000 Euro a piece to Finland. Not only that they were 4-8 Million when new, for that price, I'd have loved to fill my garden with a lot of them!

Since the concept basically was a WW2 (turretless) TD you had to aim the whole tank to fire. To facilitate this, the manufacturer (Bofors) had come up with a hydrualic system that accomplished this very smoothly. The drawback was that the entire tank was filled with hydrualic tubes, couplings, pumps and I don't know *how* many litres of hydrualic oil. These had a tendency to break or loosen from their fastenings, spraying the crew compartment with oil and making the tank unmovable or unusable until fixed. It was an excellent tank when everything technical was ok, but it's failure rate wasn't anything you would want to speak loud of. Hence he nickname "The hydrualic bathtub"

Hmm ... with that (for Sweden) unusual name I would have remembered if I had met him, but no :-/

He is of German descent. His grandparents (father) moved to Sweden in the early 20th century and his father also married a German. His uncle volunteered to the Waffen-SS in early 45 and died in a soviet prison camp...

I saw that tank in action on one of the armored warfare specials on cable. Interesting vehicle.
