ORIGINAL: jaxpac So I have not played a civil war strategy game since Civil War Generals 2 and while it was clearly a great game in its day, I am not looking for a battle tactics simulation at this point. I am looking to get one that is strategic in scope, allows for a wide variety of unorthodox strategies as opposed to being locked in to the historical course of the war, is reasonably quick to play without a lot of micromanagement, and of course is challenging, fun, somewhat realistic etc. Games I have tried and like include GG's world at war, Commander: Europe at war, Civ4, Axis and Allies, Total War series, Europa Universalis series. So I assume many people here are avid civil war game fans and have played them all. So I would like ot hear what people might suggest for me given the information above. Perhaps even a quick rundown of the top options and pros and cons if someone is really ambitious... Hope I'm not asking for too much here... Based on my bold, I'd say Gary Grigsby's War Between The States - for quick challenging play, you won't beat it. My personal all time fav is Forge of Freedom and you can easily "tone down" the micro-management.
