Aircraft Tenders (AV) seem to have changed since WITP so my question is: will they conduct air searches with their float planes if they are docked or stationary in an ocean hex? I know CS type vessels can launch floatplanes while underway. If not what can we use AVs for except to move float planes from A to B?

As far as I see it AV vessels do not carry float planes around, they just allow them to operate from the base were the tender is stationed. If you want to transfer float planes you'd need a CS (if this is still the correct abbreviation).

It looks like float planes will fly from the Japanese AVs when underway. You can see the pilots accumulate fatigue ...

Some AVs have integral float planes that are useable operationally. Some do not. Both provide Aviation Support to seaplane types.

The amount of Aviation Support, whether or not they have their own floats, how many and of what types, are all independently defined in the editor.

JWE is it safe to assume that just like in Vanilla WiTP if an AV has aircraft capacity it can in fact operate the aircraft underway if you transfer them onto the ship? My assumtpion is that it is SAIEW, but assumptions are often wrong.

Pretty much, SAIEW, but be sure to read the manual 7.0.1.1.1

I noticed that at least one IJN AK class has an upgrade option to a Sanyo-class AV, capacity 9. This AV, it appears, will carry and operate floatplanes at sea. The upgrades do not appear to have integrated units, but I imagine you can load a 9-plane Chutai and operate it. Very cool option!

Now, I don't know when I would choose to make that upgrade, I probably wouldn't as I don't find AV's useful past the first month, as much more than a one-shot picket.

Looks like Allied AVs are SAIEW: No integrated floatplane, they are just AV support at an anchorage.

The real question is, is it worth losing cargo capacity for a 9 plane Chutai? I guess if you wanted to use it for airborne ASW it might be, but I'm not convinced.

How about this... I have 50 LCU AV support at a base, and 24 from AVD's.

I have 1 B26 squad at 50 planes and (2) 12 plane Catlina squads.

Does the 50 AV from the LCU take care of the B26's and the AVD's take care of the Cats and I don't need any more av support?

In terms of AV support, absolutely, but that raises another question: Do the Catalinas count toward the base stacking limits still? I bet the answer is still YES. But in terms of AV support, you would be 100% covered.

The manual distinguishes between a CS which can fly missions underway and an AV which can only fly missions when anchored.

Please read the Manual, Section 7.0.1.1.1

Any ship with a "capacity" can fly missions; AMCs, AVs, CSs, whatever.

I'd say yes. Detecting enemy subs decreases their chances of success.
