I'm in Scenario 1, Non-historical 1st turn, playing as Jap, so 'magic move' is the name of the game. If I look at the Jap Carrier Strike force located at Etorofu preparing to dash across the Pacific, I note that air squads are prepped to strike at Pearl Harbor. However, it appears that the units targeting the airfields are using TORPEDOES to do so.

1. Is the toggle "Using TORPEDOES"/"Using BOMBS" irrelevant when you assign a/c to attack anything non-naval, i.e. if I attack airfields, land target, even if I by accident select TORPEDOES, the program will override that selection? Wouldn't it be logical to grey the toggle option out if it becomes irrelevant in that case?

2. I must assume that this has been tested extensively, so my hunch is that is does not hurt the Japanese in turn 1 to drop TORPEDOES on airfields. But let's assume I'm a stickler for detail and would want to switch to BOMBS, just because. Will that void my 'magic move' because I made a change to the set-up?

Thx.

I thought much the same.

However, if you mouse over the USING TORPEDOES notification, it will tell you that it is for naval strike and if available. I suspect that means that it will default to bombs for an airfield attack.

Ordnance carried is determined first and foremost by the mission selected and flown. The "use Topredoes" button is there to allow you to order them conserved more than anything else.

Obviously, since there's a system override when you bomb non-naval targets (default to BOMBS even if TORPEDOES selected), the game's algorithms won't quietly deduct any torpedoes from your stash. Right? Yeah. Well. Just felt better to be extra sure...
