It's a great game. El Cid made a very good point about a hidden virtue - It's a far better base for modders than WitP because it has no hard-coding apparently.

I'm still playing WPO! Slowly but surely...

I'm playing it a little - it's hard to adapt to having so little air assets, but interesting.

It's a great game....I just haven't had time to play it much with real life interfering plus a long-term PBEM WitP game that has to take priority.

I've thought about starting a new game sometime to test my "Orange Dawn" scenario.

At some point I am going to start working on my "War in the West" mod. I have been busy with other things for the last (long) while.

I just ended my two year old game. Just too much down time with nothing happening to sustain our interst. We just hung it up.

However, I highly reccommend the short scenarios. They are fun and offer plenty of big gun action.

Scenarios need some work - but I love the game - even more than WITP - though I admit I spend more time with WITP - but not playing time - mostly project management time

The big attraction for me is the WPO is truly a naval game - especially the 1922-26 period. There really are no planes except for light short ranged search. The whole enemy battlefleet can be a few hexes away and you will have no idea.

I started and Rysyonok continued to support a "cautionaries" scenario. I planned to do both a "cautionaries" and a "thrusters" version. These are of course based on Millers excellent work on the period. Many scenario variations on these themes are possible - but they take some work - I probably spent 300 hours on "cautionaires" just getting it to the point were we could really play it - and it still probably had a weakness of a possible USN approach in the Kuriles that needed to be addressed.

But even given my work on AE - if I have the time - I would definitely like to not only play WPO again - but also work on scenarios for same. Just need a bit of that time!

Speaking of the naval game, did you ever do any more of the pre-dreadoughts? Your Majestic was truly majestic! :)

I like this game with combat animations on, more so than in WiTP. There is something engrossing about watching two big lineups of heavies goin' at it.

Geeze I hope the combat animations for AE are a bit more involved?

I´m playing your "cautionaires" scenario ... and is great ! From my point of view (playing American side) is too easy for Japan take Philippines and I'm lucky, that my opponent is not so experienced and tried take Hawaiian Islands too ...

If interested, here is AAR from the war, but unfortunately just in Czech language: War for Phillippines

Uh, no, unfortunately that one is still "half finished" - there was this other little project "AE I think they call it - that came along and got in the way.

The warships are done IIRC and the merchant ships are about half done - but net/net - that means the ships are about half done as I was planning quite a few merchies.

Well I for one would love to have those pre-dreads, as my attempt at art ended in total failure (fortunately, I didin´t quit my day job). So good luck on AE so you can get back to those lovely, incongruous monstrosities!

Hey I'm no artist either - I just started with an existing ship and proceeded one pixel at a time - get a decent paint program and blow up the bit maps so you can see every pixel and then you can easily change them.

Now there are real artists who do things differently and more efficiently - but my technique was just pure brute force.

Do the waterline first - so you know how long the ship will be. John Eldredge on the AE team has a system - he could probably turn you on to - if you like.

I finally have resources to print the manual so, I think I'll be playing it soon.

Right, you PM'd me - I said PM JWE - he is the one with the real system. My system is just take a ship that is close to the one I want to make and change the pixels - mostly one by one - until I have the pixels I want - slow - but I have lots of control. Now there are real computer artists who do things differently - I am not among them so I know not how they do things.

I just got the game a couple weeks ago - just in time to miss the current $10 off sale <doh!>. Visited the forum quite a bit before purchasing, the AARs were eventually what won me over. Love it so far - am learning the rules using Clash of the Titans scenerio as a guide. Still have a bit to learn, would like to get past the "dumb mistake" phase before trying PEBM.
