So, having thrown myself into a PBRM game right from the start, I figured I might as well write an AAR to share with you my experiences and comments.

First off, this is a closed AAR, so no reading this Ace.

The scenario is number 2, the Enhanced Japan version. I'm not exactly sure what 'Hakko Ichiu' means, but I like a lot of the toys here, particularly the plentiful pilots.

Were using the following houserules, though I feel that since were both after a 'historically-plausible' game, we wont have an trouble sorting out anything that does pop up unexpectedly;

PDU - On
FOW - On
Weather - On
Real R&D - On
Allied DC - On
Reliable Torps - Off
No Withdrawals - Off
Reinforcements - +/- 60
Dec 7th Surprise - On

No Historical First Turn, following limits for turn 1;
-Allies can only form TFs offmap or on the West Coast
-Allies can not change orders or move any air units or TFs
-Allies can however change orders for the two US CV groups and Force Z

-Japanese will withdraw KB from Hawaii by Dec 9th at the lastest (ie 2 days of strikes)

In addition, a few general ones would be good, to keep LCUs where there supposed to be;
-No moving Kwangtung LCUs into China without paying PPs
-No moving Chinese LCUs into Manchuria (Japan) or Burma (Allies) without paying PPs
-No moving Thai LCUs into China or Burma without paying PPs

And another I added for myself, because I've been keeping track of all the errors in the database;
-No exploiting database errors, like the LCU with several hundred 5.5in CD guns (no matter how tempting it is to slap this on say Midway...), or the Tonan Whaler conversions, ect.

Ill post a few large scale maps and explain my stratergy, and then well get to the report for Dec 7.

I'll be running a monthly update on the first of each month, showing industry, point and other totals.

For now something to look at while my opponent grapples with the monstrous allied first turn.

Sunk ships as of Dec 7th 1941;

December 8th - The day the Torpedo squadrons of Kidou Butai ceased to exist;

The scary thing is, half of these losses were from strikes that were adequately escorted (2:3 escorts:bombers ratio)! About 20 were from unescorted strikes, which I really wonder why they were that way, as KB had CAP set to minimal numbers (20-30%), and I got no explanation as to the unescorted strikes. Well, looks like my carriers are out of it for the next few months...

What is also surprising is that those 108 runway hits clearly did NOTHING to PH; as I was facing crazy numbers of aircraft when the follow up strikes went in.

Heres whats left of the KB airgroups;

And here is the worst of the carnage - what the hell were these guys thinking! Thankfully this was the last of the days strikes, so the CAP was down from the numbers in the morning;
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Lahaina at 182,108

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid detected at 10 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Japanese aircraft
B5N2 Kate x 31

Allied aircraft
P-36A Mohawk x 11
P-40B Warhawk x 4
F4F-3 Wildcat x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N2 Kate: 18 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied Ships
CA Minneapolis
CL Raleigh

Aircraft Attacking:
5 x B5N2 Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 18in Type 91 Torpedo

Ill post some plans for Phillipines and Malaya tommorow.

Eh frustrating, the Kates became the target of opportunity on that one.

Show us some of your economic choices Juan.

Also, You might want to look at producing the Mabel in addition or in lieu of replacement Kates. Same range, same load, faster cruise, and it uses a different engine than zero/oscar/kate/lily/Tojo. With all else being equal, it is important to be building something that doesn't need an HA-35 engine as those are always in short supply.

Subscribed!

I am curious what everyone is finding on that 2nd strike at PH. I haven't sunk anything day 2 that wasn't going down anyway, and the risk of large pilot losses is high. I am leaning toward 1 and done, but wondering what others are also finding.

On the flip side, Day 1 in AE is better than Day 1 in WITP for sure

What are your plans for SOUTH PACIFIC? I am trying a bypass of Guam by the 144th and a direct landing on Rabaul. I think this is the way to go. Are you bringing a BB division down there? Need to account for the ANZAC cruisers.

Update time!

December 9th

Philippine Islands
-Landings at Aparri underway, landings at Vigan and Legaspi due in the next few days.
-DD Inazuma and DD Ikazuchi fight a series of engaments with PT boats. DD Inazuma sunk for no kills.
-Two unescorted G4M strikes go in on Manila, 6 downed. Have no idea why escort did not fly.
-Mini KB restocking at Badeldaob, due to head into Makassar straight to intercept fleeing shipping.

Malaya/Burma
-Kota Bharu falls, follow up landings there due in the next few days. Follow up TF also heading to Signora.
-Plans for Malaya in a post to follow.
-Aircombat over Malaya heavily in the Empires favour.
-Two engagements with AVG over Rangoon, the Oscars score evenly, the Zeroes better.

Southwest Pacific
-Several of the TFs at Badeldaob have headed to their destinations. The invasion force for Kavieng is due to land tommorow.
-The Shortlands invasion force and others are being consolidated to take Rabaul. They will sail as soon as BB Fuso and Yamashiro arrive from duties at Legaspi. KB Will also be available at that time.

Other
-Submarines score several kills between Java and Borneo, as well as south of the PI.

Economy - Air
-I have stopped all Nate and the old Ki-XX series light bomber production. This capacity will be eventually transferred to Lily, Oscar, Kate and Zero production. For now however, I have converted only some Nate factories to Oscar Ic. I have also converted all Oscar Ia and Ib to Ic (they dont upgrade, for whatever obscure reason).
-I have increased Kate production slightly, same with Mabel production. The Mabel is superior to B5N1 in every way, and only inferior to the N2 in that it cannot mount MAD gear. My plan is to use Kates for the KB, and Mabel for the Mini KB and landbased forces. I will switch Mabel to Jill when it arrives.
-I have increased R&D for the following planes; Ki-84, Ki-61, A7M, B7A and Ki-44.

Economy - Naval
-I have accelerated 3 of the Unryu class CVs that are beyond cost range (they cost 1 x Durability when accelerated). I will stop accelerating them when they come into cost range, and accelerate others.
-Halted Musashi for now. I will see if I continue it or not later.
-Acclerated some LSD and APs, but I will have to expand the Merchant yards somewhat if I want to get these ships in faster. Next priority is all good ships that are out of cost range so I can maximize benifits.

Ill do a proper Economy update with WitPStaff at the start of next month (1/1/42), and monthly ones thereafter. In the meantime, if you've any questions, go ahead.
