You know, I realized that particular bit of sentence might be open to interpretation, but I decided to leave it anyway...

I think the implications I would draw would probably break a few forum rules.

Well, you've just been to San Francisco (aka LiberalHippieLand), so you might have brought back something yourself...

Anyhoo, I just ordered Kaigun from B&N. Time to see what all the fuss is about...

well, don't know why, but it worked then. I even figured out that I have to wait after speaking my command until it is recognized. At first, I was getting mad why the game doesn't understand my words despite speaking always without any dialect...
Then the first mission began, I gave the order to attack -and CTD..

Well, this game will be hard to review when not working

Now played 3 Missions. Way too simple IMO. A usual RTS wich would be no match for something like "Ground Combat" without the Voice Control.
Why don't you like it?

BTW: HoI3 is disappointing... Maybe the beta testers did their work for the first time to ensure no permanent CTDs, but the controls... horrible!

I don't like EndWar because it's too simple (like you said), the graphics are awful, the story is paper-thin, and the voice-acting is just nasty. Same with H.A.W.X.

And don't get me started on Paradox games...

I've read your comments in the HoI3 Thread

It looks good, many new inventions, but if I don't figure out whether I can avoid several things that bore me, I'll give it a bad review.

e.g.
- technologies stay in the research list, even if they are already so advanced that their progress is negilble. I haven't figured out whether there's an option like "only research it once"
- the consumer good are no longer just a percentage but a value determined by number of units and politics. Bad thing: If you have 3 additional units, you've suddelny dissent as to small production (can't be stored as well). If you have dissend by another cause, production also gets too small - even more dissent.

They've finally introduced a button that means: "Set slider to the need" but there isn't any possibility to "keep the silder whereever the need is". So you permanently produce too much or too few consumer goods.
You may let it control by the AI, but then all production is controled, even the unit production...

The unit selection on the map is horrible IMO...
Diplomacy doesn't make too much sense so far, but I may figure it out...

If there are solutions to this things, it will again be a great game, but so far, I have to force myself to play it - and that with a HoI - incredible!

BTW: Nation Red is funny . Just swich brain off and enjoy some mutant slautering for some minutes. I guess this game will stay on my computer like solitaire. Its simple, there's no story, there's no long time motivation or camaign as well as no multi player.
But if you're bored, you can really have fun for 30minutes.
That for 10-12 Euro is a fair price IMO.

Good morning all. Sorry to hear about your flu bug T, hopefully it immunizes you to what may be a tough flu season this year. With AE out and work I've not had time to examine HOI3, past experience with that game company leads me to believe that it is not my cup of tea.

IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey, while a different genre, appears to be a gem or at least eye candy.

I played HOI2 and enjoyed it for a bit, but it doesn't have the long term interest for me.

If you still have it and have some spare time, look for the "Historical Stony Road" mod. This turns HoI2 nearly into another game. It's an amazing work with thousands of additonal events, new units, etc.

I'll give it a look thanks

The last time I played HOI2 Germany didn't declare war on Poland so nothing happened in Europe. Japan over-ran all of China before declaring war on the West. The USA sat back and did nothing, the Dutch sent an expeditionary force. The UK (me) had to take back India, and vast chunks of China in a race against the USSR, whilst the Royal Navy carrier groups slowly destroyed the IJN. That war ended with an invasion of the HI followed by chasing the Japanese 'capital' around the Pacific islands before I could force a real surrender. About 8 months after that the Soviet Union declared war and rolled through China whilst RAF Victors nuked Moscow, Stalingrad, Chunking and every other major industrial center I could find.
I must have lost more than a dozen CVs in the war but still finished up with two dozen or so with more under construction

I've just seen my first night-time naval attack   A MTB flotilla was attacked by Betties after attacking an IJN patrol boat near the Phillipines

Poland has a very low chance to hand over Danzig and the corridore. I guess its about 1-5%. If it does so, no war in Europe will start for some years.
Now there are dozends of changes, just a few examples:

- The 50 Destroyers are given to the Brits and are "sunk" from the USN.
- If Japan chooses to do Pearl Harbor, the BBs are sunk by script
- Japan now has several options after conquering China (partion into several puppets, one big puppet, seize all)
- Z-Plan, Soviet Naval buildup, Japanese Naval expansion
- old Italien BBs are "sunk" and come back after some time as modernized ships
- There's a small timetable for Germany to get National Spain on its side. By script, National Spain doesn't conquer Madrid before mid 39, so the civil war lasts that long. After the civil war until the outbrake of WW2, it may join the axis. If done so, France leave the alliance immediately after the outbrake of war.
- Quisling
- Descicion between Surface fleet / Subs with blueprints accordingly
- weaker naval bomber
- SS with all its historic units. Player is asked whether he wants to create this or that historic SS division. This costs some manpower and supplies and the unit is on the map with 2/100, so it has to filled up, first.
- You are warned when playing Germany not to attack anyone until may when poland is conquered. If you do so, there's a coup. You may then descide if crushed or successfull. Don't want to make a spoiler here, if you like to try out...

I only played this mod. It was already made for HoI 1 and its worth it!

I'll probably work my way through a chunk of them, but seeing as there are people out there with a better knowledge of USN camo than me I'm focusing on the Commonwealth stuff at the moment. There's also the upcoming release of BTR which will need some new art stuff

BTW, are ships pictures chnage with time and their upgrades in WitP-AE (i.e. one ship have more than 1 picture)?

Yes, sort of. The pics are based on the camo that one of the ships in that class was wearing when they arrived in the Pacific. If the refit has a seperate image defined by the AE team then that upgrade will get a seperate pic with new camo and whatnot. In AE the Kent class cruiser has two different sides so here are the two I've made, first is based on HMS Cornwall between Dec 41 and her loss, the second is based on HMS Suffolk when she was assigned to the Eastern Fleet in 1943 which coincides with a refit date for the class as well. The Indomitable class carriers only get one side view for, but seeing as I don't mind messing around with my art folders there are three different views for different time periods.

I've got plans to do the entire BPF in 1943, since they were mostly based on a simple Admiralty scheme. Luckily AE has cut down on the numbers of schemes needed as most RN ships are withdrawn whereas the original WitP meant the same ships could stay on map for the wholse war...
