jep, they can

i believe its only possible with 7000 AK's in either Tokyo or Osaka (not sure which one)
takes a while.. (don't forget to accelerate them after converting)

and when you're at it, you might want to convert some MLE's as well

Remember though that when you convert a ship the time needed for the conversion is fixed.   Changing priority will not get them done sooner.  Priority will only come into play after the the conversion time if they still have damage that needs to be repaired.  I had several ships converted sitting in repair with zero damage waiting on the minimum time to be released.  If they don't have lots of damage put those repair resources to good use elsewhere.  In addition once the conversion in underway you can move the ships to pierside repair to free shipyard space although I'm not sure this is true for all conversions.  I'm hoping in the future they will add the capability in the game or in witpstaff to pick a conversion and have a screen show which ships can be converted to that class sort of a conversion manager along the lines of repair manager.

Sorry just noticed this was for the original WITP.

They can accelerated. I had MLEs by March 42 as Japan.

Any 5000+ AK or AP. Some mods have smaller ships than 7000 tons.
