Okay I get the concept, but Im going to have to admit to being unsure about it in practice.

If I left click on the lower part of the circle (around 200) then right click on the right part of the circle ( around 160) do I end up with Circle B (40 degrees) or Circle C (320 degrees) for my search? I have read the rules a couple of times but must admit I dont quite get it and it being rather important to success :-) I'd like to be sure.

If you do that in the order you describe, you'll get result C.  The left hand click (first click) describes the left hand side of the search area, and the right hand click (second click) describes the right hand side.  Hope you've got a lot of patrol planes in that squadron for your example!

C

Remember: CLOCKWISE.

Which means: you did a left click 200 degrees (beginning of arc) then a right click 160 degrees (end of arc).
The search area is from 200 degrees CLOCKWISE (like the clock goes) via 270 360 90 to 160 degrees.
200 to 360 is 160, 360/000 to 160 is 160, so you are trying to cover 160 + 160 a total of 320 degrees.

If you want to cover the southern part do a left click on 160 degrees, then a right click on 200 degrees.
Will cover CLOCKWISE from 160 to 200, that is an area of 40 degrees.

The LEFT click determines BEGINNING of arc, the RIGHT click END of arc to be counted CLOCKWISE.

Got it?

Maybe we've discovered why you lose so many carriers?

Six games to date since launch.

Zero losses of carrier assets (both as japanese and americans). Only one has been scratched.

I must be learning :-D

Yeah its why I did it. I'm a visual guy and reading the rules on this I couldnt visualize what it meant. Somehow I got it in my head that left click was the left side of the circle and the righ was the right. :-). No carriers were killed by this mistake fortunetly.

I see an alternative reason for you lack of carrier losses besides you learning.
