My snipers cannot shoot infantry beyond 80 meters. But, oddly, they have a small amount of AT power out 160 meters. They are basically like a weaker version of an AT rifle.

Is there some way I can edit one of the data files to give my snipers range beyond 80 meters? and eliminate that AT capability?

Every one that I have tried using so far. I'm not sure how many different snipers there are, but I have used 3 or 4 of the early ones and I have used the SVT-40 one you get near the end of the campaign.
I play mostly as the Soviets, but it looks like the German scharfshutze are the same too.
This is from a screenshot I took of the Russian sniper armed with the SVT-40 in Berlin:

I've got snipers making kills when on defend at over 170m.

They do seem to have AT ability... but so far for me won't take a shot at an armoured vehicle "we can't hurt that" if ordered to do so.

If I see enemy infantry out in the open and I order the sniper to fire on them, he says "We can't hurt that."

From the battle I just had... no problems.

Snipers were left on defend and chose their marks.

Previous battle fire orders were followed willingly.

OK this is really odd. I tried it again, on the first map. When the German machine gun team popped up over the hill about 210 meters away, I ordered the sniper to shoot and he did.
But then the MG hid behind a tree, and when he popped out the other side, I ordered him to shoot again. This time, the message said "We can't hurt that" and the audio "his armor's too thick!"

The same MG team, moved only 10 or 15 meters, same order, two different results.

ok

Just played the same scenario

I finally received that same  message - said "We can't hurt that" and the audio "his armor's too thick!"

But the sniper fired and made kills without problem at 250+ metres....  seems like a small bug with voice/text cue.

OK, so even if there is no yellow bar for 'Anti-Pers' beyond 80 meters on the bottom of the screen, he will still be able to kill out to 400 - 500 meters?

I just saw that when I was placing the 'Fire' order, the distance was displayed in black lettering which generally means the unit can't shoot that far, and I heard the "armor's too thick" audio, so I assumed that something was wrong with snipers and there was no use for them.
