Hi guys- great to see some some movement on this project after so long.
It's been bloody years.

Well being an old WIR player from way back, and even before on the commodore 64 there was always the sticky issue of the western front- and its collapse.

I've had a peak about but cannot find any comments about the Western front (all inclusive Africa-Med-Dday)in this version of the game.
How will the West be handled, both in terms of ground forces and aerial?
Will the player have a say in its defense? Or will the game allocate a force pool to the West based on time lines and weather (winter)?

Another point is Hitler's declaration of war on the USA in '41, does the player have an option to opt out? And thus be able to commit to the East 100% leaving a few units behind in France, and even gaining a victory in Africa with over balancing the force pool (or however its handled)?

cheers

Muzrub

I believe it has been discussed - the Western Front follows the historical timeline, so expect D-Day sometime in mid-1944 (and lots of withdrawals of troops from the East).

I believe the withdrawal & reinforcement system will take into account the ebbs & flows of the war, so there will be a drain of units back to the West throughout the game.

So let me get this straight ... if Hitler were smart he would not have declared war on the USA. But if he would have been smart he would have stayed out of politic's and became a painter or poet. Sort of a moot point ... play the German and you have a nut case at the top.

The question kind of gets to a perspective type discussion. What role are you playing in the game ?

Maybe if Hitler was smarter he could have declared war on the USA and still defeated the Soviets?
Ensure total war as of 1939, creation of a decent long range bomber and fighter equipped Luftwaffe to deal with Britain (Sealion), remove racial barriers to enlistment and encourage embittered Russians, Ukrainians etc etc and become the leader of a fascist revolution in the East.
Not to mention a million other things the man could have done if he wasn't controlled by bitterness, and racial hatred.

But this all fluff.

What about the bomb plot? You know July- Will it play a roll? I'm not saying it succeeds and all of Germany rejoices- but will it, if we're following the historical path remove the use of certain leaders from the game- the leaders who took part in the attempt?

ie You (the player) have General Ludwig Beck in control of a korps or Armee group- will he after July 20th be removed from the game, purely for the fact he would have participated in a plot regardless of his latitude and longitude? And how would that removal be resolved?.

Will events such as the death of Todt or Rommel be included?

Not sure about leader withdrawal (I'm sure there will be a mechanism for that), but as far as who you are - I believe it would be considered an amalgam of the General Staff & Army Group Commanders (Manstein recommended that Hitler appoint a single General to run the East, but Hitler forced him into retirement for making the suggestion).
