Anyone heard anything from gladiatt about his wife?

Hi Grollub. And the others threadster too (and as NCSU, i fear to forget some).
I knew this thread was great but i couldn't imagine that some people i didn't even know will think of me and my wife when i'm not connected.
Thanks to all of you.
The news are not good, but it must be "softened" (lack of english translation, sorry ).
Surgery to be done before Christmas. Date to be precised with the surgery-doctor, wich is currently in hollidays, so rebdez-vous with him on 7 september. There is a risk during the surgery.
There is a possibility to touch the vocal nerve during the surgery: my wife could become mute, or mute for a time (untill she "learn" her voice back), or to change of voice permanently. (my best friend already told me "this way she would not bore you the evening " and as it is my best friend i know it was a joke).
And also she will have to make a traitement (damn, i am angry not to have a tanslattor that work on the internet; if someone could help me translate this one ??), and this is with radioactive iode ( to fight the fire by the fire)......wich lead to a strong and long tiring of the body (and the soul); last time she had it, she was tired for a year.
Here are the news.
No need to comment if you don't want, if you don't know how to do it, but i appreciate even the ankward words .
Eric

Eric, I'm sorry to hear the news was not better than you feared. Wishing you and Mrs. Gladiatt both the strength to get through this fight and the chance to find joy with each other despite the fight.

Hi all,

quote:

ORIGINAL: gladiatt

Claire (my wife) had her cancer start in 2001. The Thyroid was removed totaly, and yes she has pills for the rest of her life; according to the doctors, for a thyroid cancer, it was a bad one. She then had to endure a radioactive iode traitment wich lead to tiring for a year or so. In 2002, bad luck, something went wrong, she had to make another surgery, and another treatment. I knew her in september 2002 when she just get out of the treatment (isolated a full 5 days because of raidiation in her body !!). We date in november of 2002. In 2005, during a control, we believed (well, the doctors told us) that may be it was starting agin. I lose faith in my family at this time (i won't enter in details), but after 3 months of anxiety and various test we knew it was not this.
In january 2007 we get married (best day in my life so far !!).
In november 2007 my wife fell from a horse; she nearly broke her spine. She stayed in bed in a "corset"( what is the english word ??)for 3 months, unable to move. I had to change things in the house for her ( get the bed upper, change the toilets, and so on), i washed her, i feed her, i gave her what she couldn't reach, i try to give support, and that was hard for both of us. In march 2008, she get off her "corset" and start re-education, wich took 6 more months. But in the meantime, back to work, things get bad with her boss, added with the stress she had when she was lying in bed for 3 months. The 29 august 2008 (and as the day come closer, the anxiety of my wife grow), she made a mental crisis (Delirium tremens) with complete loss of the reality. In order to escape from me (because i was my doomed double (i have no double brother) ), she jumped of the window....she broke a coastal bone. She also was closed in mental hospital for 2 weeks, until she get back in reality. And of course, she had to see a psy. She was weak for all the winter.
Then, right now, as we both look for some rest (because each challange need a long time to rest), we learn that her cancer grow again (and Claire believe it is from the stress from her boss last year, and from the fact of staying motionless for 3 months 2 years ago);
once again, the diagnosis tell that although a thyroid cancer, it is a severe one. To tell you the truth, doctors are interested in her case because it's a uncommon case (don't they see the human being behind the "case" ??????). We know that after the surgery, there will (not would or could) have a radioactive treatment, wich lay my wife asleep as soon as 8pm in the evening, wich lead to few energy to make sport or go out on week end, and of course wich have an influence on the morale.
SO to resume: my wife and i know what it is. We know what is going to happen; we know the risk. We know it can be cure, but there is always a risk; and we know we can't afford to be weak: a disease, wichever it is, is cure ALSO by a strong morale.
(problem is i have some kind of malus on the moral check, something like -15 on a die roll ; trying to joke, sorry).
I am not feeling offended by your post Leo, don't get it wrong. I just explain what we had get through, what we are going to face, and the fact that i don't know how to express that i am SCARED TO LOSE MY WIFE.
Sorry, long mail.
Once again, i appreciate each threadster brother that give a word .

You both really had tough luck... and bad streak... <SIGH>

What can one say... really best of luck and wishes Eric!

Eric - you and your wife will be in my prayers.  My hope is that she will have a speedy recovery and the two of you will emerge from this challenge stronger and closer than before.

Hello Gladiatt.

My father had thyroid cancer in 1962. Surgery removed the thyroid and he too was treated with a radioactive Iodine cocktail. The good news is that it worked. He had to take those little thyroid pills forever, but the cancer never returned. And this was 40 years ago.

There is indeed hope, Erik. You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers.

John

Termy, you are right.

OK, i remenber of one.

2 Belgiums are in the jungle. As the come close to a river, one of them, wanting to cross, look for a ford. The other told him "isn't it a tree branch in the water ?". The other one, willing to be sure, take a stone and throw it on the tree. But it appear it is a crocodile, wich sprung from the water, running toward the two belgiums. The one who threw the stone start to run, but not the other; so the running belgium ask (shouting) "Why don't you run????" . And the other one "You are kidding?? I didn't throw the stone !".

Back from Afganistan.  Apart from the part about being in a war-zone that was probably the best trip away I've had with the RAF   The other lowly airman and I commited a long series of misdemenours, horseplay and general tomfoolery.  Right now I love my job again

How about this one:

An Englishman, a Frenchman and a Japanese man are shipwrecked and washed up on an island. As the only three survivors of the wreck they decide on a plan for survival. The English bloke says to the other,
"As the English are known for our civil engineering skills I'll be in charge of building a shelter for us. The French are known for their cooking skills, the Pierre can be in charge of the cooking."
The Japanese guy poipes up asking what he can do. The Englishman replies,
"Well the Japanese are well organised, so you can sort out our supplies."
The three men agree and seperate off to start their tasks. As night fall approaches the shelter is built and there is a cooking fire ready. But there is no sign of the Japanese guy. The ENglishman and Frenchman are concerned and, worried that he's been hurt, go into the jungle looking for him. They wander through the jungle for a while shouting out to him, until the Japanese guy jumps out from a tree and shouts:
"SUPLISE"

I have only a little knowledge of cricket. Seems a bit confusing.

The important thing is, the Ashes are ours again Although even when we lose them they stay in the UK, we may look, and indeed sound, daft but we're smarter than you think

P.S. This place is dead, what is going on? Is there some sort of get together I've not been told of?
