Why does not the Germans got artillery larger than 75mm FH in the core???
ALL other nations got it.

...because they didn't have larger than 75mm in the Artillery company organic to the Infantry regiments? Wasn't the larger bores assigned to the Divisional artillery regiment?

And doesn't that depend on what campaign you're playing? :o

German infantry regiment's didn't have their own organic artillery companies,artillery support was provided by the art. regiment.Each company did have a heavy platoon which was equipped in part with a 7.5cm inf. gun.In the TOE of grossdeutchland july 1944 each regiment had a 13th company which were equipped with heavy self-propelled gun's

What's this? A 1st Wave Infantry Division OOB, June 22 1941.

Take a look in the infantry regiment sector, below the middle rifle companies, between the AT company and the Recon company - If that's not a 75mm FH company, please correct me.

Whoooooops! I can do that myself!! Sorry, those are at the battalion level! :o :o I stand corrected. But still, that's within the core forces of the SP:WAW scope... :p

Nonetheless, it's a cool table, so I'll take the humiliation ;)

The German infantry divisions always had organic arty on the regimental level.
The reason for some sources to believe there was none, is the fact, that the organic arty consisted of the 75mm and 150mm infantry guns.
The designation of the lIG18 and sIG33 as infantry guns in the english sense of this weapon type seems to cause some confusion.
Both guns were used in direct and indirect fire roles and sources like the Handbook on German Armed Forces therefore call these weapons actually Inf Howitzers, being closer to what they were used for (and the fact, that they were fired in the upper register, too).
These guns used the same optics like the 105mm lFH, that were made for direct and indierct laying.
The tactical use of these weapons seems to be closer to mortar units, then to "real" arty units.

The big setback was a very limited range, making the guns useless for arty duty like counterfire or helping out units, that where not directly in close contact to them.
But they nevertheless made up for an important support for the infantry battalions.

The Inf Howitzer company of an infantry regiment consisted of 6 75mm IGs and 2 150mm IGs.

The 75mm IG18 was later replaced by the IG37, especially in Volksgrenadier divisions (including complete reorganization), The 150mm was build up to the end of the war with an ever increasing quantity.

If we return to the OOB table - those companies DO belong to the regiment, then? :confused:

Yes, the 2+6 is the infantry howitzer company of the regiment (2 sIG33 and 6 leIG18).
If I remeber correct, it was called the 14th company.
It was organic to the Regiment and even if the Division commander ordered you to give another regiment support you couldn't, because the range of the guns was to short ;)
So you had them all for your own purposes as regiment commander...:D
