I uses to play the original Steel Panthers a few years ago. When I read about SPWAW in PC Gamer Mag. I down loaded it from Matrix. It's been a while since I have played any kind of war game. In the scenario "A tragic stand", the Americans were basically rolled over by the German forces they encountered. Here are a few statistics from the game I played. As the Americans I lost 264 men, 6 soft vehs., 0 apcs., 39 afvs. The Germans lost 230 men, 0 soft vehs., 10 apcs., 22 afvs. Point wise U.S. 4,852 to the Germans 10,377. The game considered it a draw. Did it do this because even though we were thrashed we held our ground? Rather new to this. Just trying to figure out if what little strategy I had worked. I would like to hear from newbies as well as what PC Gamer Mag. calls The Grognards...lol. Thanks MikeM [This message has been edited by MikeM (edited November 01, 2000).]

Draw, Marginal Victory, Etc. are decided by a ratio of points scored. Don't remember exatly wich. In SP3, I played a WW2 battle, April 45. I was the Germans, fighting a delay (I think it was) vs the US. I had a company of Panthers, and one of Elephants. No other forces of significans. When the game ended, I had 5 Panthers left, with no ammo. The AI (US) had all the victory hexes. I got a draw, because the map were a field of burning wrecks. If it hadn't been for the US Army Airforce, I might even have won. ------------------ Halstein

True, the level of victory is determined by the ratio of final points (and this is configurable in the user-defined campaigns). Many things have changed since SP1 and the designers are always fine tuning unit points and objective points, to find the right balance between terrain captured and losses sustained when determining what level of victory should be assigned.
