Troy Goodfellow, not a big fan of the original COG, has given his first impressions of COG:EE here: http://flashofsteel.com/ Good to see some more mainstream attention coming COG:EE's way. So far, only pure wargamers seem to have been aware of the game.

you know, reviews/reviewers, they need to go back to the hole they slithered out of, and pull the rock in over there heads

if he has trouble with figuring out that right click don't move the troops, then tuff, go back to his RT games and enjoy them

(I remember one guy doing a review on a game about D-Day, and his major complaint and why he rated the game so low, was, that you had to fight the battle where D-Day happened, and not where you would liked to of seen it happen)

in fact, I think it was something like "Gold Beach" and the main complaint was that you couldn't land in northern France, or Norway, or southern France

but it was a game about the battle for Gold Beach !!!!

Reviewer's reviews are only worth the amount of time that they are willing to invest in learning the game. If they don't play it enough to even have a rudimentary knowledge of how the game plays, they shouldn't be reviewing it, or wasting people's time with their modicum of knowledge. Mr. Goodfellow seemed to focus on the naval aspect of the game.
He needs to play a PBEM game of COGEE, to actually see how much fun it can be!

I remember a gamer who reviewed the La Batille de Corunna, and thought it was a terrible game as the French fleet unbalanced the game in favor of the French, and there was no way the British could win. If he had actually bothered to read the rules he would have realized those blue ship counters were actually British ships, not French! There were no French fleets at the Battle of Corunna!

Troy Goodfellow and Tom Chick have now posted their (weekly?) podcast, this time on naval combat in games. COG:EE comes in for some very fine praise. Pity it's not been transcribed, but it's entertaining enough to listen to. Here's the direct link, with comments/discussion both at Goodfellow's flashofsteel.com blog and over at quartertothree.com: http://media.libsyn.com/media/threemovesahead/ThreeMovesAhead028.mp3
