Shaun,

I've encountered a couple problems with the playoffs in 1.84 Beta 2. My association is a 1998 replay. I haven't tested to see if the same problem occurs in other years.

Problem #1: The breaks between the playoff series don't seem right. Between the end of the season and beginning of the LDS, the teams had one day off. Between the LDS and the LCS, the teams had four days off. And between the LCS and the World Series, the teams had no days off. My guess is that you attempted to fix the problem of schedules running into November, and you also changed the LDS from seven games to five games. I appreciate the change of the LDS to five games. I don't know how the game is setup in the code, but how about just a two day break between each series? It could work through all eras:

End of season to World Series - two days off.
End of season to LCS - two days off, to World Series - two days off.
End of season to LDS - two days off, to LCS - two days off, to World Series - two days off.

I know this doesn't exactly match real MLB, but I think capturing the MLB playoff format over the years would be difficult.

Problem #2: A playoff series doesn't end when a team wins the required number of games to move on. For example, in my sim, LA took the LDS 3-1 over Atlanta, but still had to play game 5. The same thing happened in the LCS, as LA swept SD in four games, but still had to play out the series through game 7. The World Series, on the other hand, ended with LA taking Detroit 4-1.

Dave,
I created a 1998 historical assn and simmed up to start of post season. I then simmed the post season 3 times using these 3 methods:
1) Sim Current Day - for each day of the post season
2) Sim Season
3) UA PLay until next year

I never could reproduce the error. Did you use some other method besides any of the above?

BTW, re-read your original message....was this a MLB Historical Career assn? Or, a Replay assn?

Steve,

This is a historical career mode association, beginning with the 1998 season. In this case, I've been using UA Play through September 20, check standings and stats heading into the last week of the season, then I use Sim Season to the end of the season and through each playoff series. I do have the association saved from creation if you'd like me to send it to you - if so, let me know the best way to get the .psa/x files to you.

I'm going to start another historical association to see if I can reproduce the problem as well. But, I've run two seasons now from the beginning of 1998 with this saved association and I've had the same problem #2 with both seasons. I'll try a couple other things with the current file as well to see if I can help you narrow down the issue.

Shaun/Steve,

For problem #1, I simmed the 1998 season again with the same saved 1998 association, but this time there was a one day break before the LDS, a four day break before the LCS, but this time there was a four day break before the World Series. Odd... Maybe there is just something screwy with my association.

Steve, did you find anything from the association files I sent to you? I'm still experiencing this problem, using the option "Real Major League Players - Career Mode" beginning in 1998. Also, I completely rebuilt my PC over the weekend, so I have a fresh install of PureSim, v1.84 (RC 3a).

In running the 1998 season on the fresh install, I uncovered something else screwy with this. If a team plays more games than required to win or lose the LDS or LCS, those wins and/or losses get added to the team's win-loss record in the standings. So, in this sim, Texas and Anaheim tied for the division at 84-78. There wasn't a tie breaker in this case, which I've noted in the RC3 thread. Anyway, Texas won the LDS 3-1 over New York, but lost the unnecessary game 5. Texas then lost the LCS 4-2 to Toronto, then won the unnecessary game 7. Texas' win-loss record in the standings is now 85-79, and it shows Anaheim has now clinched the division.

Yes indeed. All problems found and fixed with all this. Submitted revisions to Shaun for inclusion in next release. I want to thank you for helping me test this and for submitting those screen shots too. Very helpful.
