Hi folks,

Thanks for the responses to my last post: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2219027

I now own the game, but am waiting my computer to get back from the shop before I can play! Frustrating! More frustrating is the lack of a print-copy manual, so I can't even learn the game while I await it. Is there some way to view it online?

Anyway, it sounds like I'll love the game. But I was really wondering (and I guess I'll find out in due time!) whether the game compares favorably in scope to the ASL boardgame. Are each sides' OOB impressively detailed, or limited in equipment. Is there a great variety of terrain types and effect or limited... that kind of stuff. Thanks

There is a PDF manual on the disk... the publishers decdided to not supply a printed manual with tLD.

You can get the Close Combat 5 manual here at that will get you started...   http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.1079

I believe it is. Not to oversell the point but ... I used to play ASL in highschool in it's heyday. Later when looking for a similar type game, but on computer, I came across CC and although the differences take some getting used to (not having to roll dice to calculate the effects of someone blinking) it is exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully you'll feel the same way.

Oh and a suggestion for your ASL dice: I've got mine mounted nicely on a maple plaque stained in a dark walnut with a brass name plate below identifying the years of usage. Occasionally I stare at them wistfully recalling the days of yore. Wow this is unintentionally beginning to sound a lot like a euphamism for marriage. Except in that case my wife would've been the one who had my dice mounted. hardy har

Ha!!

Really, thanks for the info guys! As of last week, I have a new computer and I have now begun my first forays into CC. Wow! So far it seems like exactly what I wanted - maintaing the ASL depth with real-time energy. I have new questions for you all which I will post as a new thread.

If you ever spent any time creating scenarios for ASL, and I know you have as most anyone who's played ASL has, then you'll LOVE modding CC.  You have more control over the finite details of the game with the ability to test the results of your changes before having someone else play it.  Infinite possibilities.  My prediction is you'll be a CC addict like the rest of us.  See you at the montly support group meetings.
