Does one HAVE to use search arcs to find anything or are they optional?

Thanks

If you use from 0 to 0 than that is 360 Degrees. The defult is 0 to 0.

You CAN limit this if you like to a smaller or to a specific search ark if you like.

Not really optional - but you could ignore them - at a cost.

I saw it explained elsewhere that the aircraft in a unit each cover a 10 degree arc in each day phase.
e.g. a 12 a/c PBY unit would, if set to 100% naval search with no arcs set, cover 0-120 degrees in the am phase and then 130-240 in the pm phase. Therefore no a/c would search 250-360 - bad news if KB is approaching Midway or Canton Is or Pago Pago from the north west
Having two units at a base with no arcs set means double coverage, but still a big hole.

Hopefully what I read was correct and not conjecture - don't want to mislead you.

My understand (take that for what it is worth) is that the qroups would search the skipped sections the following day. Meaning they will cover the assigned sector as fast as they can although it may take more then one day to do that!

Have not heard that and it would be extremely significant. Do you remember the source?

Well I remember seeing it somewhere, but I can't find it now and rereading the manual doesn't say that it would work as I indicated so I guess I was mistaken, I'll remove my post to avoid confusion.
