Status: offline 		Don’s Babies (Da Babes, Les Bebes) is a mod, in preparation, that hopes to do for AE what CHS did for WiTP.

Gobs of new classes, tons of new ships, slatherings of new art, paying very close attention to details of the smaller combatant, merchant, and auxiliary vessels for both sides.

Lots of new stuff, including: ships captured by Japan in the opening days of the war – ships captured in China, Hong Kong, Japan, the open sea (some new art, here; an APL liner in Japanese colors). Several new Straits Steamship types (Matang, Raub, Rahman, etc..) including the unbelievably ugly Klang class. Several new Philippine steamer types (Don Isidro, Don Esteban, etc..) including cut down 4-stacker conversions to banana boats that became blockade runners (Teapa, et al ..).

And the PGs (USCG and others), and PCs (Canadian too), and YPs, and YMSs, and Brit YMSs, and Brit LSTs, and Brit/Indian/Dutch HDMLs, and hopefully every stinkin Brit and Aussie auxiliary from a Kurumba AO to a Kangaroo net tender. And there’s 3 flavors of YOs, Brit Cadet-type coastal TKs, Woof!!

Later war warships included – all the Canajans, eh? – Brits, Indians, French, golly.

Not to worry, the art just drops in. We reserved spaces, and just filled them out, so one can play “stock AE” with Da Babes art set. If we get real lucky, maybe the Les Bebes art extras can get schlepped into patch-2.

Anyway, that’s what’s on the horizon. Coming soon to a theater near you. Ciao. John

Thanks, but wrong one. Looking for detailed data on the US Army Transports (ships). There are a couple of excellent reference works out there: US Army Ships and Craft and Over Seas, but neither gives much detail on Alaska. Also have some excellent data on the SW Pacific Permanent Fleet (also Army).

There was a major concentation of army shipping (USATs) involved in support of the Alaska command. Many smaller transports for dangerous waters and small ports. Apparently based primarliy out of Seattle, maybe Anchorage as well.

Looking for ships, dates, history.

How about the official US Army in WWII histories? There are three volumes on the Transportation Corps. See here about 1/2 way down.

The volumes are not available there but you could probably find them at a good-sized public library or university library.

I guess so. Depends what corrected means. We're looking at it though.

Buck Beach is coming up with some interesting things that we missed. Maybe you could do the same? Can always use input.

Status: offline 		Not at the moment. Don and I are both concerned mostly with ships and such. But, like CHS, this thing might take on a life of its own, so you never know. However, we'll do our best to incorporate things that have a solid basis and good references.

Don, I have been scrowring the Internet and have come up with many ships that may or may not qualify for your mod. Tough searching for those ships supporting the build up of Alaska but haven't given up. Not wanting to purchasing any books I have come across as I'm almost 67 and have given away all of my books and not is not the time to be accumulating any more. So I will bits and pieces my contribution to the cause. I will post them separately under this thread. They will not be in cronological order.

Pardon my spelling I will have to put my spell checker here on my wife's computer.

Escort Division 33:

"A few days later, we were informed we would be assigned to the Pacific Fleet; consequently, we received a new air search radar. Also, at this time, the Sandusky was made part of ESCORT DIVISION 33 consisting of the USS Charlottesville (PF-53), Machias (PF-25), Allentown (PF-52) and, of course, Sandusky(PF-54). William F. Cass was CO of the PF-53, Robert T. Alexander was CO of the PF25, Garland W. Collins was CO of the flagship PF-52 with John Ryssy as Division Commodore and I had the junior ship - Sandusky. While in the Navy Yard, the Chief Engineer, Lieutenant. T. H. Macown, deserted and was picked up by the Shore Patrol somewhere in New Jersey. I preferred charges against him; he was transferred and Lieutenant (junior grade) B. A. Church was assigned to relieve him - it was an outstanding change. After completing outfitting, we sailed for Staten Island, New York, on July 31, 1944."

The whole read is good historical info.

On this list are 9 ships I didn't find in the database that were sunk or damaged in
Alaska waters. I included two oil screw ships not knowing or able to find out what they were. I left out scows.

Bering (Freighter)
Stanley Griffith (Freighter)
Northwestern (Freighter)
Coldbrook (Hog Islander)
Alice T. (oil screw ???)
Laida (oil screw ???)
Teapa (Freighter)
Perida (Freighter)
David W. Branch (USAT Troopship)
Aleutian (Freighter)
Jonathan Harrington (Liberty Freighter)

If needed I could check out the above to see if I could get more info on them.

Please note that the parent site also gives many other merchants so damaged/sunk in other areas of the Pacific and West Coast that I have not yet compared to the database.

Know about some of these, not all.

Teapa is an old friend. One of three ex-destroyers converted to banana boats between the wars and then snapped up as blockade runners for the Philippines. Not ready in time, two went to the SW Pacific Permanent Fleet, the third to Alaska.

There are the sites however (as you undoubtedly know) of where the various ships were built that can assist with some details.

Yeah, it's difficult. We managed to dig up a 1945 document on the SW Pacific Permanent Fleet so that is well covered. Did decide to leave out the "S boats" of the "Catbird Flotilla" - mostly Australian fishing vessels of under 100 feet that were taken over for light transport in New Guinea. Do have the USN APc's though.

A similar old document on USAT during the entire war is too general and does not give the needed data for Alaska.

"Over Seas" (http://www.ensignpress.com/) gives excellent data on the USAT in the Philippines and a little on Alaska. US Army Ships and Watercraft (http://www.amazon.com/U-S-Army-Ships-Watercraft-World/dp/0870217666) has a little information in picture captions but no extensive details. There were a lot of interesting small transports used as the various ports were under developed and conditions terrible. In fact, ship running aground in Alaska is about the best source for finding a ship that was in theatre.

I started here just looking for more info on the SS British Columbia Express that showed up at the second site listed and that lead me to the "war sailors" site where I found out this about her:

In service on the Pacific coast, later chartered by the US Army and fitted out as troop ship, carrying troops and equipment to the front, and wounded soldiers on her return voyages. She caught the attention of Douglas MacArthur, who chose her as his "personal" ship, and she performed many a special task for him.

Many of her voyage logs are listed to support her activities.

As I jumped around the site more and more new ships appeared that were used in the So Pacific with quite a bit of details.
