Hello all, I have been around for a while but usually just float and read and laugh.

Thanks for the excellent work to all concerned for the game, it is by far the best of its type on the market.

I have bought all of the mega campaigns and have downloaded most of the scenarios. I also visit the link and fan sites and think that the quality of the game is well represented through all of the various SPWAW support locations.

Just thought you'd like to know. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, TJ

PS - is the a market garden scenario / campaign in the pipe-line incorporating the new maps from the map competition?

TJ,

I have been working on creating maps for all of the Market Garden Campaign battles, and have designed completed scenario at this time.

I have finished maps of Arnhem, Nijmegen and Schijndel, and am presently working on maps of the 1st Airborne landing zones. My future plans include Oosterbeek, the Groesbeek Heights area, the Neerpelt bridgehead (30 Corps start line, Eindhoven and Grave. If you have downloaded my completed maps, you will get a good idea of how long this will take, given the amount of research and attention to detail that goes into them.

My completed scenario is of 2nd Para Battalion's battle to hold onto the Arnhem Bridge and the 1st Para Brigade's attempt to smash through the German blocking line to get through to the bridge. It is a scenario designed to recreate history, not to satisfy one's desire for a quick sceanrio fix. If you are a fan of the campaign, and know something of this part of the Arnhem battle, maybe you'd like to try it out. But, I suggest a human vs. human battle`, as it is too complex for the AI to model the historical battle correctly.

When (whenever that is) I'm finished with all of the above maps, I'll create scenarios for them, but I envision them as being a scenario package, not a true campaign.

Regards,

David Boutwell

Thanks David, I would love to try the scenario out. Where can I download it. Also, the scenario pack you are developing sounds fantastic - I have seen your maps and they are fantastic - can't wait.

TJ,

I'll send it to you. I think that the attachment I'm sending you is the most current zip. If something looks funny, let me know and I'll look at it. Remember, this scenario is best played with another human, and also, be sure to read the background information. It will help you understand what is going on at the beginning of the scenario. This is a big scenario, but it is thoroughly researched, and all of the units are as accurate as possible.

Hope you enjoy it,

David Boutwell

I'm pretty familiar with the market garden campaign actually, I just finished reading "It Never Rains In September" - an account from the German perspective. Can't wait for you to get all of the scenarios done. I hope that they can be played from a human - AI perspective though as I haven't ever really gone human / human. Mind you, if anyone wants to play me I'm on for it.

TJ,

I'd be glad to take you on in the streets of Arnhem, although, since I designed the scenario, I'd have a bit of an advantage, I think.

Have you read Martin Middlebrook's Arnhem 1944? That is the best book, from the British perspective that I have read. I would also suggest John Waddy's "A Tour of the Arnhem Battlefields". In addition, I suggest getting all of the books that Battleground has put out on the campaign. They are releasing the book "Oosterbeek and the landing Zones" this month, and I believe they are releasing the book on Arnhem before the year is out. Also, they have already released, "Hell's Highway", "Nijmegen" (which I used to create my Nijmegen map), and "The Island". So basically, they've covered the battlefields of the campaign all the way from the 30 Corps start line all the way to Arnhem, and I'm going to create maps, and hopefully scenarios, for all of them someday.

I think the first new scenario I'll tackle will be a large Nijmegen one, though. The people who like tank-heavy battles will not like my scenarios, though, because Market Garden was not really a tank vs. tank campaign. Although there were a lot of tanks involved, most of the time, one side had them and the others did not, or had far fewer. This campaign was more about infantrymen and paratroopers, with some support armor, slugging it out at often very close quarters. It was more often tank vs. ATG or ATW. I'd love to debate that viewpoint if anyone doesn't agree. People who want to sit down and play a scenario in an hour and not be burdened by historical details will not like my scenarios either, at least not my larger Market Garden ones.

The publisher of the After the Battle Series are releasing the two volume set on Market Garden Then and Now in September, I believe. If you have an intense interest in a battle such as D-Day or the Ardennes, that series will become your Bible, take it from me! But, they are expensive at $75.00 a volume.

Pops,

I guess that if a campaign can be done with the units on both sides being preset, I'd be all for it, as these scenarios are more of a vehicle for helping me to put into order the details of a certain battle (chronology and oob). I don't tend to play campaigns, but am I right in thinking that the human player always chooses his units?

I'll always post my maps, so anyone who wanted to get creative with them could go right ahead.

Regards,

David Boutwell

TJ,

If you've read Kershaw, the units and events in my scenario will be very familiar to you. The scenario closely follows chapter XI.

.....to make it a campaign....I think you could deploy most of the troops as Auxilliary troops while making the scenarios....deploy the enemy of course and leave just a small number of troops for the human player to deploy....you could even limit their deploy zone so as to keep it realistic......just some ideas.....
