and bars. Visited a friend there back in the mid 90s. She was living in a old mining town south of Missoula. Anaconda I think. 7000 people in the town and 50+ bars. Or so was I told. Seemed to hold up on my brief tour through town as thats all I seemed to see!

I also helped drive this same friend from Montana to NC a couple years later. What a beautiful drive!

How big a story is this whole blackmail business with David Letterman in the States? Seems a bit outlandish to us watching it from afar...

It's received a fair amount of coverage, in the "news of the weird" vein , but that probably has more to do with a slow news period then anything else. Plus, if combined with the Roman Polanski story , seems to indicate a growing "hollywood vs. the rest of us" feeling. Most people I talk to about the stories have after years of stories of Hollywood scandals and excesses can only ask "is there anything that those pond scum won't sink to? And consider themselves justified because they are SPECIAL?".

Here's a link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091003/ap_on_en_tv/us_tv_letterman_extortion;_ylt=AiJCp__hW0gfS2xJMTBdSCOs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTNibzVmY2UxBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMDkxMDAzL3VzX3R2X2xldHRlcm1hbl9leHRvcnRpb24EY3BvcwM5BHBvcwM2BHB0A2hvbWVfY29rZQRzZWMDeW5faGVhZGxpbmVfbGlzdARzbGsDbGV0dGVybWFuaXN0

Basically : Letterman has been sleeping with members of his staff. A CBS network producer (Letterman's network) tried to blackmail Letterman for $2 million not to spill the evidence to the press and Letterman's wife. Letterman wen't to the police and the blackmailer has been arrested and indicted.

It doesn't seem to me that the Letterman and Polanski stories can be compared.

Polanski drugged a 13-year old girl, took naked photos of her and then had sex with her. That's reprehensible, but it's also interesting that the victim herself, who was paid a $500,000 settlement out of court, doesn't want him to be prosecuted for it now.

The Letterman thing seems to have been several instances of consenting adults having relations. Letterman has always seemed like a bit of a dawg to me.

The problem with the Letterman angle is that in his show he constantly makes fun of people who do the same thing as he did. Do as I say , not as I do.

As far as combining the two stories, it's simply two more of the seemingly endless sordid stories that come out of the entertainment industry. People are simply sick of these morons and their continuous nonsense. Yet you can't watch the news without stories of Paris , etc.

As long as Letterman's relationships were with consenting adults ( no subtle " have to have sex with the boss kind of thing " ) who cares. He is a bit of a hypocrite since he has made fun at the expense of others who have done the same thing, but I do not really expect much from him anyway tbh. Sort of a yawner to me.

Just because he's their boss or superior? Consenting or not , many American companies would view that as a firing offense. No date rules are common. And in government service , that's a definate no-no. In the military , that's a poetential prison sentence.

Letterman is definately a hipocrit. But then again , he's "Hollywood". That makes him better than riff-raft like you and me. "He's special". Just ask his friends, who by the way are the same one's pulling for Polanski.

Now, at the risk of avoiding politics , how about them Zero's vs, Wildcats?

Good heavens, that was the most nightmarish traffic situation I've ever seen. I wish we had thought to come way early and tailgate too. We spent 3 hours getting to the stadium, missed a 1/3 of U2's set, and took a couple hours to get out of there.

But they were good. Tremendous rig they have this round. Plus, they are a really tight band right now. Definitely on their game.
