just read the topic threads for both programs and you will find your answers.

staff gives you more info about the important economy playing japan for example.

Thanks for the response. I did read the topics regarding both, (that I had found), and did not find the answer. So, if anyone can still answer my original question.... I would be appreciative.

I've used both a little, so far I like tracker, when playing Japanese, it gives me the info on industry/production/resources/etc. at the level I'm looking for (very detailed). This is really needed when trying to run the Japanese economy, you can filter info on specific aircraft and engine types and lets you see what things really cost. The only thing I don't like, you have to rename the savegame files when loading in multiple saves and edit a file to load a specific save file. I wish it would just show me a list of saved games files with date/time and let me pick which ones to load.

I think Staff is easier to use at this point and fine for playing allies (no production/economy), tracker gives more detail more options to filter the info.

I use both.  They both show info that is nice to know but show a lot of different info.

It works fine when I use the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe to run tracker or staff, by default *.bat files on my vista64 bit machine will use C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe.

I run tracker daily for Witp under 64bit Vista. No worries.

Hey, that did the trick! Finally, after trying to get it to work for nearly 3 months, I finally have WitPStaff running. Big thanks!

Is there a way to make a shortcut so I dont have to do the DOS command manually each time? By default, when I double click on the .bat file, it uses the wrong .cmd file. How can I set this up?

Thanks in advance and thanks again!

Chad

Well the quick way I did it was to make a copy of the bat file and rename the extension to something wacky then associate ("Open With..") that extension to the correct cmd which will open the cmd window in that directory.

Firstly both Tracker and Staff can be used by 64 bit users, the major configuration hurdle seems to be the Microsoft patch rather than either of these programs. Potential 64 bit Tracker users can contact us for more help if needed.

As to the differences, both do specific things well. Tracker is both macro and micro in its approach, and just like its name we intended it to track through histories, a lot of the game data. Staff does this to some extent too. Some might accuse us of drowning users in data, I think we augment the needs of the top level data with the ability to really look deeper into the data, to use as you wish.

Apart from that Tracker also goes beyond that by:
  • providing a ship production calculator
  • LCU production information
  • More detailed Airframe and engine production,as well as an engine-airframe planning page.
  • More detailed production information
  • Ship Repairs and Upgrades, with conversions soon to come.
  • A history of alerts
  • More specific base data

Staff on the other hand, has an excellent map system for specific things such as airsearch, TF movement etc. We have yet to implement such a system, but will probably do so sometime in the future.

Anyway in the end, use both and find which one you find more to your requirements, they are both free, but don't lose sight of the game for the data.

    Got it working. Thanks again.

By the way, it brings back fond memories to type DOS commands again. Ha, I had to look up the commands . . . cd . . . dir . . . ahhh, the memories.

Go to the tech section and place a "little" more detailed description in the WitpStaff thread at the top.

No offence but saying you can't get it to run, means nobody is going to be able to help you!

    Hi  BigJ62,

after fiddling for weeks now, deleting and reinstalling tracker again and again on my Vista 64 system, trying all the things and tricks in the different threads without success your few lines finally made it for me.

    Tracker works for me now

    Thank you very much Sir

    Rainer

I use both, too - usually play Japan, and WitP Tracker offers much more information regarding production.

Staff integrates the maps which really helps when planning land operations, and the ability to see on the map where LCUs are targeted is a big help.
