The only review is on the main page......that I have seen anyway........read all the posts though.

This is a heavy game ala WITP, but not quite as big.......you only have to deal with the air war.

Worth every penny.

World at War, was meant to be more of a fun, beer and pretzel game, then a highly detailed game, after Gary's last couple of games, he wanted something different, and most people were looking for more of the same

Bairdlander - if you like USAAF than you will like ED/BTR. I too had USAAF and loved it, also had the original Bombing the Reich as well and they are very comparible.

Bairdlander,
Be aware this is not a flight simm. This is a Hard Core Strategy game simulating the Strategic Air War over Europe and the Med regions. You can control ALL aircraft groups and squadrons from the Battle of Britain (either side Allied or Luftwaffe) or you can play the Strategic Bombing campaigns of later periods of the war. Again you can run either the Allied Air Forces or the Axis (Luftwaffe and Italian Air forces).

To see more of game play I would suggest you cruise through the After Action sections and you will see some of the game. The basic structure of the game is you either control the Offensive Bombing Forces of one side or you operate the Defensive Fighter forces of the other side. This is an extremely challenging Strategy game IMHO. Not at all meant for the feint of heart or the weak willed. IMO it is well worth every penny. There is a Review by somebody linked on one of the forum threads but IMO it is extremely incorrect and baised against this game. I post my thoughts about the review on that thread.

My experience comes from playing this game for the past 2 years and I have found it to be very difficult but a lot of fun and very interesting. It has forced me to read and study about the real war and try to apply that which I have read and learned to improve the results I get in the game. I have been an avid war gamer over many many decades and I find this game to be one of the most difficult games to master. It really puts my ability to reason, adapt and innovate to the test each and every day of the war.

This game is not for everyone. If you enjoy a real mental challenge in a strategy game then you may like this game. It is definately not World of Warcraft but the scale is similar I think.

Later,
KayBay

Honestly, GG world at war is probably overall the best matrix game. So dont feel bad for shelling out, we all did :D

Personally i love this game. It is one of my favorites. Unlike WITP is is fairly easy to get a hold of and not nearly as long. Theres nothing i feel id like to add, though eventually im sure id think of some!
It does what its supposed to do well, simulate the battle of britain and air war over germany.
It feels very realistic, IE if you send bombers in unescorted you will get smashed, fly too low flak will eat you up, recon is vital. All in all a good game, IF you are interested in the type of warfare (which i am!!).

Hope this helps.
