SPWAW V4.4 takes up ~435MB of space. One of my older PCs is a P166 with 64MB of ram and it runs well enough on it. You might want to have an external monitor for your eyes.

It should run pretty well for you. I have a P200 and 64 RAM. And it is acceptable for me. the movement is a touch slow though... Haupt www.cfsipgames.com

I may be lucky but I'm operating SPW@W 4.4 with pentium (200mhz), 24kb of ram and less than 1 mb of hard disc space and it works real good. I don"t have the manual installed but everything else is there. So if you have at least this try-it you'll love it ------------------ Sm:):)th Sailing...chief

Hi Im running the game on a 300 mhz 32 MB laptop with a external screen. The game runs smoothly, and fast enough (my brain is slower so its no actual loss). Ive 4 gigs fo storage. Ive also tested on a 100 mzh, 32 mb system with 2,5 gigs. There the game runs more in line with my brain. More poverfull systems no real must for me even if I have acces to them (the brain again). O.K a 19" screen is better than a 13". Regards Molset "Jakki er ekki frakki nema sidur se".

You'll need SB-compatible soundgard/chip.

Yes, this is important. From what I've heard and read here, the game will not run unless you have a compatible soundcard installed.

Thanks for the inputs, I notice that there are many video files and they take up quite a bit of hd space. I think matrix before put out a version without the video. And in the installation of v 4.4 I do not see any options of not installing video. Is there any way to delete the video files that are not necessary ? Any tips on the ABSOLUTE minimum skinny I get by and still have play the game. Sorry but my lap top have about 1 gb left.

Before it died, through no fault of SPW@W I was running the game on a first generation P133 with only 32 Mg of memory and it ran fine, if a little slow. A friend and my main e-mail opponant is running it still on an identical system to the one I had, and he was saying this morning that with the 4.5 patch it is running even better, dunno if the guys at Matrix have also done some tightening up of the code, but Tony's as chuffed as hell!

It is actually not the movie clips that take up the majority of the space, it's the soundclips that use about 300mb of your harddrive. I suppose that the Matrix team might want to consider using some other sound format than wave. However, it doesn't bother me since I have way more than enough space on my harddrive.

Yeah, those WAV-files really eat lots of HD-space. It makes things a bit worse when many of these files are duplicates. And yes, for some reason, most WAV-files (compared to other games, like Rogue Spear) have large sizes, even if the sound is quite simple. I have removed most of the movies (.SMK) from my SPWAW-folder, but you still need that vid998.smk so you are able to play SPWAW, so...(dont know why Matrix wants that file to stay there though...) I have lots of HD-space, but I still hate to keep unnecessary files in my folders. (375cel, 64mb. nothing hot & shiny, but it still works and runs most of the new games)

My guess would be vid998.smk is a mechanism for Matrix to fulfill its legal obligations to SSI, and possibly to Messrs. Grigsby and Brors.

Size of this "mechanism" is really THE problem. I think it could be done with less than +50mb No hard feelings Matrix, but I'm against this kind of practice...

I think there should be a laptop or "absolute minimum" installation without video files, may be even sound files, and that you can add these latter if want to. 350 mb is a very big install as it is now, not everyone can effort to upgrade every year, especially laptop.

I try to keep a gig free on my hd so space isn't really a problem, but I noticed that if I ran mech.exe instead of the normal shortcut it jumped immediately to the menu screen without playing the video. Perhaps if you shortcut to there, you can do away with the .smk intro movie. thanks, John.

I think what we need to remember guys is that most games still leave things like wav files, and movie clips on the CD disc. Because this is an internet downloaded game it needs to download everything onto the HD. But as has been suggested a lite version minus the film clips, and say minimal wav files would be a nice option. Or perhaps a download version that is intended to be burn onto CD, then installed, leaving the wav and film clips on the disc!

Hey all, I'm playing on a 233 mhz compaq with only 32 MB of Ram and hey, it works pretty good! but I haven't tried multiplayer(though the way I'm getting shot up in the campaigns I probably shouldn't ; can't resist the lure of the "charge of the light tank brigade ". Maybe there's a support group somewhere) Any other low ram people want to share their experiences?
