A newbish one: how effects of flak are calculated and whether putting escorts in convoys offers any real anti-air protection to transports other than creating decoys? In combat animations, even taskforces laden with CVs, BBs and CAs rarely seem to fire on planes before they start attacking individual ships (at least in 1942), and when there is merely 1-3 destroyers + various junk that's supposed to escort transports (for lack of better use), they don't seem to do anything except drawing some attacks and (in case of destroyers) having better chances to dodge them. Also, how attacking pilots generally prioritize targets? Or, in other words, what is better to put in your carrier taskforce as decoys (fast BBs seem to be the decoys of choice, but they aren't always available): CAs to try and soak some hits, and also provide better anti-air firepower to the taskforce as a whole (if this really matters, see above) or DDs to try and dodge? So far, attacking planes seem to fixate on destroyers quite often, and destroyers seem to have better chances of surviving air attacks but maybe I haven't seen enough examples.
