Hi all!

I've searched through the forums a bit and I noticed that there is quite an amount of custom graphics material scattered here and there... What I would like to know is, are there any "prefered" comprehensive graphic mods out there? Something that has become some kind of a standard around here? What do you guys use to enhance your visual experience?

On a side note, is it possible to disable the graphics in the Unit Panel? I know it may sound strange, but I find the terrain and especially the 3D image of the unit somewhat annoying, and sometimes I have hard time reading all the important numbers there...

Many thanks!

Try the menu item for 'High Contrast', that's the simplest.

Very nice mod, JMass, thanks! Ah, and no terrain in the Unit Panel - excellent!

Now if only I could also get rid of that ugly 3D figure of the unit itself...

This is simple, you must delete (or move them in a bakup folder) the relative files in ..\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War III\Graphics, they are named beginning with "i" as "i00000g.BMP" (1540 in total).

Great, this seems to work! I do get a debug warning while loading ("i0000g bitmap dx 6029413 > 900"), but after I click Continue a couple of times, it disappears and the scenario loads. Everything seems to be OK, and the ugly 3D image is gone.

Thanks for the tip!!!

Using this will avoid the error messages and leave your originals intact...

1. Rename the attached file to *.zip
2. Unzip to your AltGraphics directory.
3. Double-click on the *.bat file.

(It simply copies a blank 3d unit file 1,540 times, matching the original filenames in your Graphics directory. If you want your 3d units back at sometime, just delete i*.bmp from your AltGraphics directory.)

I find I still want information on the hex in question... I just don't want it to be overwhelming...

Your browser is set to read text files instead of downloading them. So instead of (left) clicking on that link, right click it and "save as..." (it may try to name itself forcedownload.asp or something similar. Just rename it to something_else.zip when you save it.

Thanks E, this works wonders... I never cared much for the 3D and terrain display in the unit display box but was dreading a manual conversion of those bmp's

I hadn't thought about removing the 3D units until stumbling on this thread yesterday (although, I had thought about repositioning them down a hair... but actually adjusting 1,540 files is beyond my lazy threshold *grin??*).

I had really liked my version of the terrain objects, until this thread as well... now I need a way to make them even more minimalistic!

Here's the bmp... the extension is faked as GIF to facilitate the upload
If some graphics artist wanna finish this, we'd be overjoyed
JMass ... Damezzi...?

BTW, credit goes to "Ash" for coming up with this and posting it on RD, his only post thus far...
For damaged railroads I was thinking of replacing the white inline with red

Here's a quick cut-n-paste to get someone started finishing out the rail graphics above.

1. Tiles_railroad.bmp (cut -n- pasted to overwrite the unfinished pieces)
2. Tiles_damaged_railroad.BMP (using the idea above, swapped white rails for red)
3. Tiles_railroad-numbered.bmp (The last file is in case there are misalignments. If any crop up, replace Tiles_railroad with it to easily see which piece is causing offense.)

Please share any improvements or problems...

Some people are having problems downloading so here they are named as gif's (due to filesizes, spread over the next few posts). These should be renamed to bmp's...

Great job E!!
62 could do without the two legs sticking out on the right, it's a curve like 41

red is indeed quite dark, I tried a lighter color but it's still not that clear

That one's on you... it matches the bmp you provided! *grin* (and the one I was using prior to this)

Try this one... but be warned, this one has been "trimmed" a bit and is thus more susceptible to misalignments/broken links. If that's that case, you can cut & paste 62 from this one over to the first one.

LOL... I just looked and the original was that way as well (legged).

How about yellow? (incorrect psychologically, but it may show up better) Or some other bright colour?

Yes the legged curve seems to be apparent in many rail mods

Maybe replacing the black with red may be the most visible

Thanks all for your help!!!

Silvanski, what is that graphic mod that you're using? That screenshot looks really nice with those yellow borders and the big red arrow, and the terrain is nice too!
