Correct, they did enter Rome and left. 8 months and a lot of battles later, the allies did capture Rome. That unit was also surnamed the "Black devils", because of their ability to use camouflage and attack at night.

The aircraft carrying airships (Akron and Macon from memory) were rigid. The aircraft is a Sparrowhawk.

When I posed the question, the answer was intended to be 'the war between the Soviet Union and Japan'. In searching the reference for posting here, I now realize that while the fighting might have been over, the official declaration of peace might not have happened for a while.

But it is still sort of interesting. From an Eastern perspective, the attack on Poland might not be the starting point of the war; but rather hostilities between Japan and the Soviet Union (or even hostilities between Japan and Korea, China, etc.

Maybe the date you are looking for is at some point in March, 1941, when the Russians and Japanese did finally sign a Non-Aggression Pact. But with no official declaration of war, there didn't ever need to be an official declaration of peace I guess.

How about Japanese bombers?

In 1944 B24's were most active in bombing targets in Rumania and New Guinea.

How about Japanese bombers?
