Bad times tithe   Our oldest BC is at the vets, she was vommiting yesterday and hasn't eaten today.  Then this evening in a 15 minute period she became unsteady and fell over.  When we got her to the vets she wasn't moving and her eyes were glazing over, the poor girl had a temperature of 45C+   She's had more than two bags of IV fluid put into her, and either p***ed or s**t most of it out again.  Her temp was brought back down to 37 and she's a bit more responsive, but still just 50/50 chance at the moment they think.  The high temp could have caused problems as well, she was so dehydrated her blood was described as gloopy.  Low white cell count and several high readings, although the high readings could be due to the concentration of her blood.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles, Martin. Hopefully, they can find something that is easily correctable. I do know a good vet.

I just got way more amusement out of the Japanese thread in the War Room than I should have.

I hope that I gave more amusement than offense.....but so what. It's a thread that truely deserves to be taken out and shot....err....make that death by lethal injection.....make that confined to endless sessions of group therapy! (Talk about cruel and unusual punishment! )

She didn't make it. The vet called at 3 this morning, it looks like the high temperature she suffered caused some neurological damage. She was suffering from seizures and wasn't wanting to stand up or even respond to her name so we had to have her put to sleep. There was less than a 50% chance of her making all the way through the night and even less chance of her returning to activity even if she did.

Mine too. I guess a BC is some sort of pet. We had to eutanize our dog some months before. Sad thing...

Dixie,

So sorry to hear this news. I had a BC as a pet in the past and she was a great dog. Having lost some many good furry friends in my life I hope you can take solace in the great times this pet brought you and it helps you overcome this loss.

Thanks for the kind words guys.  It's not the first time I've lost a pet, but it's the first time I've had to be the one making the decision.  We got her not long after CLare and I became "us" way back before we were married.  It was always Martin, Clare and Kora so her loss has hit us quite hard.  If I'm honest I wasn't expecting her to pull through despite some optimism when she managed to stand up on her own a bit later.  She suffered such a high temperature that the vet had never seen one so high.  Even in the unlikely event of her getting through last night she may have hung on for several days suffering more seizures as time went on.

I know I did the right thing, but still...

It's still hard. Meant to be hard, methinks. Still, sounds like you wouldn't have done her a favour by prolonging it.

Hi Martin. I lost Cooper, one of the springers a couple years ago. I still get emotional when I think of my friend for so many years. My vet has this on his wall.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks again guys.  I guess it's one of those things that seems strange to people who don't have pets, that I'm getting so upset over someone who wasn't a person.  But she wasn't just a dog to me, she was there when my Granddad died and I felt terrible, she was there when I proposed to Clare, and she turned up at our wedding when my brother went home to fetch her.  She was there when we moved into our first house together, and our second house.  She was always there when I came home from a crappy night at work or 6 weeks in the desert, or just from going to the shops.  Stood in the doorway smiling like she learnt to do and dancing from side to side.  I thought she'd be there when the baby arrived and now there's just a big Kora shaped hole in my life right now.  I know it'll get better with time, but right now...
