I play a number of games: Rock Band 2, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Fall Out 3, Team Fortress 2, IL-2, DotA (WC3 custom map) and World of Warcraft off and on (love/hate relationship currently). I also bounce between a few RTS games, which ever strikes my fancy for the day really; Dawn of War 2, Close Combat 3, Supreme Commander, and Command & Conquer Generals are the main ones.

It's always nice to have a good number of fall back games when waiting for a turn or if you just want to play something a little (or a lot) less mentally taxing.

City of Heroes was and still is an excellent game...

Either of you try Champions Online? Supposed to be a really good follow up for CoH.

City of Heroes was and still is an excellent game. Shame they didn't do a lifetime subscription deal like Lord of the Rings.

Christmas is coming so it is almost snowman time.

Another City of Heroes player here. It's a good way to pass the time while waiting for turns.

Shameless plug: CoH has a "create your own mission" feature. I published one with a WWII in the Pacific theme. I bet that relatively few of the people who played it got most of the references I slipped in there, like the Kagero-class robots or the fact that one hapless victim of the Japanese supervillain is named Ghormley. It's mission 146290, "A Wind From the Past."

I've seen Online Champions and wasn't impressed with it.  The graphics look childish and the combat routines are distinctly 2nd rate behind CoH's.  My wife got a membership, we both played around with it, then dropped it after being very disappointed with it.

No other wargames, but Age of Wonders/Shadow Magic for fantasy and Action Football (mostly college) for sports.

If I'm not playing AE, I'm modding AE, testing AE, researching AE, spending time reading the AE forum, and various attempts at artwork for AE.

Fortuantly the gf lets me babysit her kid which allows for more AE time.

Most importantly, I go and play volleyball and drink beer, this allows me to better deal with the pleasant frustration of AI's suprises and the various work arounds of the hard code.

There is of course work, but obviously even it allows for forum time!

I agree that the brain sometimes needs some fluff to shift gears from AE.  I get my fix by playing OGame, which is free online.  Several forum members are still hanging out there with me, so it's almost as much social as anything else.

I really think I would like GG's World at War: A World Divided, but I know I really won't take the time to learn it while I'm still learning/playing AE.

I have only one master, and it is AE.

... and THE THREAD!!!

... and Lacrimosa ... but this is a family forum.

Lots of good stuff in here -- thanks to everyone who's weighed in

I'm sure Gary Grigsby's War in the East will be a must-have when it comes out -- speaking of which, any ETA's more specific than "coming in 2010"?  That's all I've seen...

Still, i doubt it will be any more relaxing / less grognard-y than WitP: AE --  (will anyone be able to play both at the same time???)

i'm very curious about AGEOD's World War One -- apparently coming out with a major 'gold edition' upgrade soon, which if it gets positive reviews, i'll have to pick up...

Armada 2526 sounds like it could be very sweet --

War between the States or The Next War. Both are board games. I have a game board set up in my house and leave one or the other set up all the time. No cats or small children.

Two great games. I've played The Next War countless times. I've never finished War Between the States, unfortunately.

For me, it's family, work, stripping wallpaper and AE.  Now if I can only finish the first turn and get it to my opponent.....

Actually, before AE/WitP/UV, I was an avid boardgamer.  I have just about all of the SPI monsters, along with the old, old Marshal Enterprises Napoleonic games.  Actually, there's a closet full of boardgames but AE has rendered them obsolete.  Maybe when I retire.....  Naw, I'll just get more AE turns in.

WitP knocks the spots off anything else

besides my day job of building critical public safety systems and living with 5 women I also enjoy Storm Eagle Studios "Jutland". As good as WITP is on a grand strategic level Jutland is at tactical Naval combat. All the details and brutally historically accurate. But most of all fun! Ship to Ship combat with lots of Battleships! doesn't get any better

Ditto here. Jutland is second to none in the tactical genre of naval wargaming. Excellent MP options also.

Rainer,
How do you like Jutland?
I picked it up early in the year and played several of the scenarios. I have not tried playing online yet. I have been getting the itch to play it some more.

I find it amazing! Especially in MP games. It has set the standard I think for Naval Tactical Wargaming.

If I feel like a beer-&-Pretzels game, CivIV.

Otherwise it's probably going to be one of the Paradox games, likely EUIII with the Magna Mundi mod.

But just at the moment I'm not gaming at all - I'm concentrating on NaNoWriMo when I'm not goofing off in gaming forums...

Steve.

Well i just got this WitP:AE and pretty impress about Gary's work. I remember playing his game back in 1988 (Warships) and sometime in eariler 1990 (Pacific War). This is really great and dunno why matrix lefted out who created them, been keeping track of his games eps in the Pacific.

When im not playing this, i like to hang out in Age of Conan. Loves go gankin on peoples with my necromancer :)
