Nice try, indeed.

Played EvE in the past but it became boring after a few months.

lol Terminus you crack me up.

But on the note of Eve I tried it as well and it's just not my cup of space game. I much prefer X3 and Privateer I & II and Freelancer.

Tried it and didn't get it.

I've been guilty of playing MMOLRPG (WoW (World of Warcraft) and having a blast (but only if thesame repetitive "do this mission" (but on a harder scale)) gets you...))...but I really didn't get EvE Online....and I read the community was a bitch for noobs...ould be wrong, but until they correct the "unfair" newsflashes, then it won't work for noobs!

No RPG 4 me. No WoW, Evercrack, Eve or Diablo. Too much lost time from World in Flames. Boardgaming must take priority.

I've played it.  Recently re-activated my account for 1 month and after 2 days of playing remembered why I didn't stick with it before.  The graphics are amazing, but the graphics don't make up for what I would call a "soulless" game.

I've tried it on and off for a month here or there. At first it is awesome as the graphics are quite good. But after awhile the boredom arrives. Or, you just happen to jump into the wrong place and get podded. All in all I found it tedious and very boring, especially on the long missions with multiple gates....just sitting there waiting to arrive.

One mission that sealed it for me....I had to gather some sort of mineral. I travelled to the location and there was none. I had to extract it from a Asteroid field...and there were only a few around. I was at the right location.

Eventually asked the question...and getting your question seen in game is a challenge in itself....loads and loads of chat going on and your question (and any answers that come back) don't really jump out at you...loads of people came and went trying to help me until someone said "it's not always there...it might have been "farmed" just before you got there"!

That was it for me...sitting around waiting for these asteroids to "produce" the mineral so I could get it...bored, bored and more bored. And like I said...the community is really, really hard nosed. Not everyone...there are loads to help, but as with any internet gaming...it only takes one arse to spoil your day.

These online mmorpgs are designed to get you to pay $15 a month for as long as they can get you to. That's why everything is so slow to aquire. I tried SWG again and within a couple of days was bored again and remember why I quit playing it 4 years ago. Things you want and need or leveling up just take too long and since the game is so old there's nobody to play with or even to sell your stuff to.
You might as well invest in Dragon Age or something else retail as you'll get your moneys worth out of it in a few days or weeks and won't still be paying $15 a month for it down the road when it becomes boring like the rest of the 100's of games we've probably all played and got bored with by now.
I think having to pay a monthly fee to play a game especially @$15 a month is the most wasted type of enertainment funds I've ever seen when there are so many games you can buy and own and play and play and play without ever having to pay for them again. I know there will be someone who says but but but I spend more than $15 on a movie and popcorn for just 2 hours of entertainment a week. I say to that that's being pretty silly as well since if you just wait a few months you can rent it for .99 in your local video store and watch it on your 57" TV screen. ??What's that you dont' have a 57" TV screen? Well if you had saved those $15 outings to the movies or online gaming that charges you to play (X-Box live another culprit who attacks the young and foolish) you could have afforded that 57" TV screen.

I played Eve when it was in Beta and then on its release.

I gave up for a while waiting until a lot of major bugs were fixed, players causing people to lag out by dropping lots of empty cans was major pita.

I returned after a year away and stuck with it for another six months or so. I finally gave up after I realised that you could only get the most of the game, if yoo joined a large corporation.

I had no intention of paying a monthly subscription just to mine ore for X hours a night so I cancelled.. this time for good.

EvE is PvP heavy, which I dont mind too much.. But I can do without the morons and the grief, soo I play X2 and X3 instead.

Cheers

Jev

Define 'space sim'. There's a lot of ground between EVE Online and a'4X', or indeed X3 and Orbiter!

Personally I enjoy space settings much more than the elves and pixies jobs in all sorts of games. I just wish someone would do something like Attack Vector Tactical for PC.

The big weakness in X3 IMHO is the actual combat, which is really pretty pants. It needs something like that in Evochron Legends for small ships and Nexus: The Jupiter Project for large ones. What a game that would be!

I tried Evochron Legends and I didn't like that combat system. I'm not looking for a space simulator just a fun space simulation to play. Freelancer has that in spades over the rest. The combat is easy and enjoyable but the economy is blah as prices never change from place to place.
