I seem to have missed something. I have a fleet carrier task force with Saratoga the slowest ship, 28 knots with wear and tear. I have an escort carrier task force with two escort carriers capable of 15 knots with wear and tear. The escort carrier task force is faster by about two hexes per day than the fleet carrier task force. Why would this be?

Hello...

It is possible that the slower fleet has more destroyers that have to be refueled at sea more often and that slows the fleet down. You might also notice that a cruiser fleet of 4 cruisers will travel faster than the same one with a destoryer added.

Then, indeed, I did miss something. I'm sure the fast carrier force did include more destroyers. Since destroyers are essentially useless against submarines anyway, that would suggest I should create task forces consisting strictly of capital ships, right? Seems odd.

I really thought I had to refuel the destroyers by command. Which, of course, used op points. You are suggesting that this occurs automatically?

Yes, I am. The task force may refuel the destroyers, if at the discretion of the commander, they need it. And, the refueling costs op points.

Wow, what a difference. I pulled all destroyers out of my combat task forces. I never had any in the shipping task forces. Draws flies, so to speak. TF's move much faster and the destroyer squadrons move quite nicely also. Looks kind of like Jutland. The destroyers are pretty much useless, I suppose, except for night surface action.
