Whenever I leave WITP-AE running (you have to eat, even when playing this great game!), I get a message that Virtual memory is low, and everything turns to glue. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

By virtual memory, it's probably referring to the swap file which is used by Windows when physical memory runs low.  Using the swap file is usually about 1000 times slower than physical RAM.  The swap file is a file on the hard drive called pagefile.sys.  It can be adjusted from, I think, the System applet in Control Panel.

If you can put more physical memory in your computer, that would probably be a good idea.  Windows 98/ME is limited to 512 MB, which is very marginal for AE.  Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 have larger memory limits.  In some cases the memory limit what your mother board can hold, which is less than what the OS can handle.

If you don't know what memory your computer takes, crucial.com has a memory finder on the website.
