I don't want to hear anymore crying about how expensive Matrixgames are.

Actually that little game was one of my first rpg adventures in the computer gaming world. It had a musical tune I couldn't stop listening to for a long time.

Pretty funny. I personally can't imagine buying a game like that, but I have never been one of those collector types.

I remember playing a cassette game from SSI I think, that was a hybrid. You had a board with counters and input moves on the computer. It dealt with the Deniper River if memory serves me. Fun game at the time.

I never played Telengard but I did play Ultima IV onwards - those tunes have burrowed into my soul.

Heck one of the oldest games I have is the old Star Saga Two game.

Check out the sexy screenshots down on the bottom right. That was back before the Blue Screen of Death, so the obvious marketing error in color choices wouldn’t have occurred to the programmers.

I’m not even sure I ever played it past the first of 13 or so booklets that came with the game, as I think it was multi-player only so playing it solo wasn’t very fun if I’m recollecting things right. Basically it’s a board game that uses the PC to follow the story line. You make a move on the board and enter it into the PC and it tells you which paragraph to lookup next.

Yes Ultima has some pretty great adventuring tunes as well.

Wow Zakhal those are some awesome expensive finds. $899 for Wing Commander series that is just too funny.

Jim,

There were two games. I played the first one. You played and input your moves and then read the story. I actually finished that game. It was a good game too. Dang the old games were the best, and I can't even tell you why they were better than many of the games put out today.

Remember Interstel?

Wing Commander was great. I played up through 3 if memory serves me.

Chuck Yeager Air Combat was another one that I dumped days of time into.

Empire Deluxe is still a classic with that one more turn aspect.

I'm getting old gentlemen.

I think the game was the precursor to Wargame Construction set?? It had the stickmen didn't it? I'm pretty sure I have that in my commodore 64 game box. I have the WW2 one never got the Vietnam one though.
Anyone remember Blue Powder/Grey Smoke Civil War game? That was one of the few games that was both hard and a wonderment about how the combat engine worked. If you got hit you'd usually lose the entire regiment, just one hit and it routed. I never did like that, but eventually did win the battle of little round top with the rebs.

I could sold my Freespace2 on eBay for $100.00 at one time but missed the window of opportunity because now you can get it at gog.com dirt cheap and there is even a free mod version of it too.
