I finally broke down and purchased CoG:EE last night and I played for 4 to 5 hours solid. Great game just wish I'd bought it earlier.

I am now offically a WCS fanboy! I really enjoy FoF and still learning that game and now CoG:EE good stuff.

Gil has mentioned that WCS has several games in the pipeline and I for one am excited for their release. Hopefully FoF can be upgraded to take advantage of some of the features in CoG:EE to include tactical naval battles and the quick build interface for provinces.

I'd like to see WCS takes up an early American wars game to cover the period ranging from the Revolutionary War through the French Indian War. Also a renaissance period game would be awesome.

Ancient Roman and Greek games would interest me more by WCS.

we been trying to talk them into it, but, everybody else tells them there is no market for those types of games (I disagree, but..)

and yes, they do have a full pipeline of stuff coming

Yep, agree 100%. WCS' stock has really gone up in my book because of FoF and CoG:EE. Can't wait to see what's coming down the pipeline.

Ancient warfare leaves me cold, however. I'd rather they take the engine and move the clock forward to the late Victorian age. I'd love to try my skills at empire building and getting myself into an naval building and arms race with the other European powers. Maybe even turn it into a game based in Africa during the land grab in the second half of the 19th century. Throw in the Zulus and Boers as well as playable powers.

The Victorian age leaves me cold, however the part with the Zulu's and the Boers I wouldn't mind. Just about anything past Medieval I'm pretty bored with. I've seen enough ACW and Napoleon games and WW2 to last me a lifetime. I'm ready for the ancients now and pre AD eras or Darkages/Medieval eras up to the 15th centruy. I'd even go for sticks and stones if it's done right.
BTW for those that are into ancients HPS has a few good ones now, Punic Wars and Gallic Wars and Alexander Wars. I personally like the Gallic Wars the best because of the siege battles.

An ancient era game focusing on Rome or Greece could be very interesting using this system, especially the Peloponnesian War with city besides Sparta and Athens playable. Also fuedual Japan or China would be good fun.

I'm not so sure that the boer wars are furtile enough ground for a game like WCS makes and is more of an HPS type game. Perhaps my Boer War knowledge is not up to par but it seems to be more sporadic battles (for the most part of limited size) and not a continual conflict. Also what would the Strategic and economic layers to such a game be?

What are you talking about? You guys have a Greek Spartan helmet as W.C.S.'s Symbol.I think you guys can do an ancient warfare game on the Greek and Romans.

I agree that WCS is a very good outfit. I have CoG EE and think it is a great game. I also have FOF, but still have barely looked at it-too many games I guess.

Regarding a new ancients game; I would buy that myself-and play it. I feel an urge to do something different from modern warfare. So space gaming or ancients-which way to go.

Three Words:

Age of Rifles

done by WCS.

C'mon, you guys KNOW that a spiritual AOR remake would sell like hotcakes; especially if you managed to put in pre-made tactical battles like Gettysburg, etc for people to load from the main menu!

Ryan, allow me to buy you a beer at the first annual Matrix Games wargame convention...if and when that ever takes place.

Great suggestion! But the AoR portion would only be the tactical part of a grand strategy title based on the European empire building race in the last half of the 1800's.

Thanks for your comments. For now, I'll only say that at least one of you will be pleased with our 2010 release plans, and at least one of you with what we'll probably have out in 2011.

I've considered both games in the past couple years but never bought it due to the fixed resolution.

I can, perhaps, manage on something with a pretty basic layout and large icons/fonts at such lower resolutions but something packed with that much info is far too much squinting and leaning up close to the monitor.  Stretching it out is just as bad on the eyese.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. It makes the team feel all warm and fuzzy!
I think you'll be pleased with what we have in the upcoming year or so. :)

You know, we've talked about something like that... but it would have to be more trade oriented than, say, FoF. Part of the difficulty with a Rennaisance period game is where one draws the boundaries of the map: on one hand the world is quite large, on the other, it's very local in europe.

Yeah, we're working on that. It's a limitation w/ the original CoG:EE / FoF engine. Our future titles which don't use that engine will be more accommodating to those of us w/ large screens.

Does that mean there will eventually be a patch to be able to play CoG:EE and FoF in windowed mode, or(dare I dream) widescreen resolutions?

I don't think so slick...it's a limitatio on the engine. I'm guessing he's suggesting the engine being used for future development is different, therefore be able to handle different resolutions.

That's what I took from the statement anyway

^Yep this would be nice.
Or the Prussian seven years War or a World War 1 setting from WCS.
I would also appreciate FoF II ;)

Already said,I would like to see ancient Greece(include Alexander the great's adventure) and Roman game from the WCS engine.
Also, the medieval period in Europe and middle east map is good.
Japanese medieval warring states period(Sengoku jidai) would be interesting.

JudgeDredd is correct -- it's the engine, and not something that can be fixed with a patch. The programming involved in making a change to the existing engine would be MAJOR, since it would involve taking the engine apart and putting it back together again. But for new engines it will be built in from the start.

I LOVE the WCS games and would like to see a 1850ish to 1920'sish type European game as a follow up to CoG. From the Crimean War up to the end of WW1 or even the Russo-Polish War period would be fantastic. However, going back in time would equally be good. In fact, what ever historical game you produce I will purchase it. I doubt I am alone.

Great news about more resolution options and windowed mode in future releases, if I understand you correctly Gil.
