Same here. It was awful, like The Da Vinci Code.

Good, I thought I was missing something. I gave up and got A History of Modern Britain instead.

Per, did you read any of the Stieg Larsson books? How well received were they in Sweden?

I believe the words "Insanely Popular" are adequate.

I gathered as much so tried reading one and found it so dull.

T is correct. They were a huge success. I can understand your sentiments though. When I read the first book, I had problems keeping myself awake for the first 150+ pages. It got better though and book #2 & #3 were really good. Not rocket science reading, but nice for relaxing the brain.

test message from 20 yo son: dad, call me, we need to talk.

Me: Hi, what's up
Him: We need to talk
Me: Are you in trouble? Is everything okay? What's up?
Him: We just need to talk
Me: Ok, talk
Him: Well, er, you know <insert 19yo gf name here>?
Me: Yes
Him: Well, she's pregnant
Me: You nugget

etc, etc

I'm going to be someone's grandad at 49. What a strange feeling. I never gave my kids permisson to breed.

It's falling out faster than it can turn grey. I blame the Resolution.

Oh, I got them. Are stories about ladyboys in Singapore acceptable?

As long as they were either working in the fields or you met them during "the war"

It doesn't matter which war, just that it's The War and it's used to entertain/bore the grandchildren. It's just The War, something that you experienced and your grandchildren can also experience through the medium of long rambling stories.

For added effect, The War can actually be a composite event. Featuring the Cold War, Gulf War and a night out in Portsmouth for example.

Thanks. Growth ring is new to me? Perhaps new line of cards form Hallmark?

Trees add a growth ring every year.  That's what I get for trying to be witty before having enough coffee.

We need some sort of Thread accepted way of indicating sarcasm...

Maybe using a particular font colour.

I think the confusion, upset and the resulting bun fights are more fun. It's traditional and we all love a good bun fight.
