91 years is pretty good for a wooden house.

Back in Virginia, I used to live in a wooden house that was built in the 1830's (Watt House). Here's a link to a photo of it:

http://www.civilwaralbum.com/misc/peninsular1.htm#bot

It's the third photo on that page (photo, not map).

In Maine I lived in houses that were 1785 and 1820. In Washington state (Bremerton) we had "the old house" 1903!

Log cabin?

Sonny's is right down the road.

The best around here though is a locally owned non-chain place.

In my experience, that has always been the case no matter where you live.

Me? I'm partial to Carolina style pork bbq sandwiches...

Local BBQ is usually good BBQ. I don't recall ever having had "bad" BBQ , just different . Some are wet, some dry , some spicier , some with cinnimon, etc. It's like chili. All different, all good.

One thing that I really miss out here in the great northwest is Brunswick Stew... I can't find it anywhere.

So make it! All the ingredients are there. The Seattle area is foodie heaven! Your not that far from there , you must be able to find the ingredients. If not , the next time you are in Seattle (or Polosboro) just think "Central Market". One of the best food stores I've seen anywhere!

Sounds like a good thing. I understand that gators get sluggish in cold weather. So you can walk to your car without zig-zagging.

It's a lot of work for a single guy who doesn't own a crockpot... I know that the inexpensive way for a single guy to eat is to cook large amounts of stews, etc - but it tends to make me overeat. As my metabolism has slowed due to age, I tend to go for smaller, simpler meals to fix.

Nope . Think old fashion , BIG hunting lodge , built into the side of a steep hill. I'd never had a 4000+ sq foot house before. And it was base housing! The base had grown around it in WW1 and it had been absorbed into what was called "Captain's Row" (and neither one of us were a Captain! We just were the right place at the right time). My wife really hated leaving that place!

Sounds tasty, I will have to try it sometime.

I have had it several times and liked it ok. It is a bit like crayfish, like chicken in the sense it is a bit bland or mild on its own so it readily takes on the flavor of whatever spices it is cooked in. I have had it most often fried, but also grilled ( it gets rubbery fast ) and pan seared, all ok.

Deep fried is always the way to go. Even cabbage taste better deep fried! And don't get me started on okra! But deep fried, it's almost palitable!

Something tells me you also like deep fried Snickers bars.

Nope! Not a candy fan.

But its deep fried!

So, do you have a good recipe?

Growing up in Richmond I was spoiled by a local cannery: Mrs Fearnow's Hope Farm Chicken (Brunswick) Stew. I liked it better than anything sold in Georgia during my years there...

My brother in Baltimore said they got 21 inches. That's enough to shut down the city for a couple of days.

I don't know what "The Proper French" call it (You have to ask Gladdit , my family hasn't lived there for four hundred years) ) but the "Quebec Quois" I grew up with would call it "La House".

Hey stuman,

Is your BBQ, the tomato-based or the vinegar-based BBQ favored by your North Carolina bretheren?

American houses don't tend to last too long in general...

My point about early Florida houses was that there were not that many people in Florida in 1918.

If they dont curb the gator population, there wont be that many people there in 2018 either.

I'll be back there by then , doing my share to bring down the gator population. Gator is very tasty!
