It was actually a serious question. My daughter flew through Chicago last night and I was wondering what she saw.

Heh...sorry...

Chicago is generally 5-10 degrees F 'warmer' than here. Madison, WI and Minneapolis / St. Paul are comparable typically. I think Chicago got some sleet and freezing rain this past week, but experienced a thaw (albeit brief) late last week. That should improve road conditions there somewhat.

We got approximately 15" of snow here over the last 5 days, don't know how much stayed on the ground in Chicago.

I promised Dixie a game and whilst I have a grip on BTR BoB is still beyond my ken so I don't know what's normal and when I've made a boo-boo.

Depends really. BoB is a simpler game than BTR so it's easier to sort things out.

RAF cock-ups:
Using Defiants against 109s or 110s.
Using Gladiators. For anything. Except maybe unescorted Stukas.
Putting more than 2 squadrons on any 11 group airfield.
Using Spitfire Ib against 109s.
Getting caught on the ground.
Intercepting fighter sweeps, just avoid them where possible.
Putting too many fighters into 11 group.
Using too many fighters against a single raid and thus having no reserves.
Using all your op points on moving squadrons.
Using all your op points on moving AA guns.
Barrage balloons round your airfields, if you plan on using them.
Using Manston. Especially true when there's a Blenheim squadron there at start, move them on day 1 or lose them to raids. Keep all your nightfighters inland, it takes them an hour or more to get airborne during daylight and you won't get an hour's notice of a raid.
Trying to intercept Ju86 shufti kites. You just waste fuel.
Not intercepting raids, even a small force of fighters can cause havoc with Luftwaffe formations.
Cleaning out 13 Group, although you can safely move the Hurris from Aldergrove. Any Luftwaffe player who tries to send his bombers to Belfast needs some help...
Upgrading squadrons whilst they are based with 11 Group, do it when they're away from the front lines.
Whilst it's not a boo-boo as such, I'd also not send your fighters to a base without fuel. The fuel will get there, but I like to have it ready so I'll normally move a minor sqn there first. The FIU is great for that, you won't miss 4 Blenheims from your front line.

As the Luftwaffe:
Not giving Stukas an escort.
Sending them further than the coast or Cornwall, even with escorts.
Using the bomber based recce without some sort of diversion.
Low level flights over anything with barrage balloons or bofors guns.
Not escorting major raids.
Expecting your forces to do anything against 13 Group.
Becoming predictable (also goes for the RAF).
Too much close escort.
Not enough close escort.
Not taking advantage of good weather.

No doubt I'll come up with more RAF ones when HS has finished kicking me

EDIT: If you get the chance as the RAF, then intercept those recce He111/Ju88/Do17 they're easy kills. In the early weeks I kept a squadron of Spitfires aside for intercepting recce missions. Their better speed and climb rate helps there, although if you're pressed then Hurricanes will do. Whirlwinds are even better, fast and heavy weapons load although the climb rate is pretty poor.

Trying to get my mind back on work after the holidays and before that, 3 weeks in sunny Florida. Result: I don't want to work and I didn't like coming back to cold North Carolina. Other than that, it's all good.

Like Eric said, nearly 3 hours.

There was enough people getting shot, stabbed, blown up and generally meeting a grisly end to keep my 10 yo son interested and enough tree-hugging and snogging to keep the 16 yo dau amused.

That is a pretty apt description. Could have been edited down somewhat, but all-in-all an ok Holiday Blockbuster.
