Let me first say that you guys are the best!

Please, have patience with my earnest request.

I pledge that this request is not to exacerbate or aggravate any gamer who is handicapped by any paranoid personality disorder.

I humbly appeal for an in game/saved game editor for WITP and AE.

The reason I would like an editor is because I only play the AI.
Due to the limitations of the AI the editor would make my games more enjoyable.
I (somewhat) understand Matrix's policy on this topic but, can an exception be made just this once?

I will gladly pay Matrix to make it for only me, my serial numbered games only and only for my computer.

I promise to undertake any and all imposed obligations to assure total appeasement of the gaming community.

Please, I'm an uneducated, simple minded, lonley, old, man that just wants to have some enjoyment with what little time of this life I have left.

I know this is much to ask but, if you guys could please do this for me I would be forever grateful.

I await your much anticipated reply.

Thank You

WILLIAM

There will never be a savegame editor for a Matrix game. It's been said many, many times.

Please forgive me but, are either of you sanctioned by Matrix to give the official decision?

Take Terminus's word for what it is.

Never is such an absolute word, even if it is very likely correct here given current ownership.

BUT,

if someone were to buy the rights to the program (compensating 2*3, Matrix, HFD etc...) anything could happen.

P.S. Of course it would be cheaper just to pay to have your own program created.

In the case of WITP, I spoke with David Heath about this several years ago. He did not want us to create a "save game editor" - actually he asked us to beef up the security of the save game file instead. Apparently the players that want a save game editor are out numbered by the players that want a secure PBEM system - hence the decision not to do a save game editor. And for AE, actually the security on the save game file is about 2 orders of magnitude greater than it is on WITP.

Of course any decision can be changed - and everything has a price - but I would not hold my breath waiting for a save game editor. Also any serious appeal for one would have to go to David directly anyway - there is no one here on the AE Forum who can speak for David - only David or Erik could really speak for Matrix as a final decision. But given past dicsussions with David and Erik - so far - everything I've heard from them is NO - and in fact the opposite - "lock it down tigher" - which is what we have tried to do.

while I wholeheartedly agfree, NO EDITOR, I would suggest that in lieu of one you simply open up your H2H game and adjust your forces .. lots can be fudged this way if thats your goal.. or if you want simply to edit something... do it before you start... But I would never want my games messed with by this.. sorry

Exactly, I'd never Play a PBEM game if there was any kind of save game editor. NO EDITOR.

Just out of curiosity, would a save game editor just compromise the integrity of the saved games or would it pose a risk to the the security of the game? If so how? Not asking for one but I don't see how it would endanger anything but PBEM.

Tis true Tis true but even a jaded dude like you has to admire this guys honest and earnest nature of his request. As for me I would just like to have the funds to buy it and the brains to play the AI Jap. Having neither means that it will never grace my computer. This is one of those games I would like to have even though what I just stated is true. I have no doubt it is a great game and just having it to fool around with when I am feeling in a intelligent mood (about 2 times a week for an old guy like me as I just turned 69 this month) would be a privilege indeed. However even when I could have purchased it with the discount I had pressing medical bills and now with no discount it out of my price range.
When you get old age and start to try to live on a "Fixed Income" you will see what I mean. At least I have the old WitP which is about all I can mentally deal with. Life requires hard choices at times but is still worth living.

I hope you had a great vacation and Holiday. Even though some of your posts are a bit over the top in my book your all right.

You sure you need a save game editor? You can just play as the other side for one turn and do whatever adjustments are needed.

I mean, assuming you can still do that in AE - that's what I used to do in WITP when the AI did something silly.

I always wanted an editor for when I read something here that would be nice to have in my game, I would be able to add it and life is good. I have restarted countless times because I wanted to add stuff or tweak stuff. I never have figured out why the software couldn't simply check itself against the opponents game to see if anything was different. Then again, I barely passed programing ;)

Couldn't you make the editor so that if anything was "fudged" with during a PBEM that all sorts of bells and whistles are activated to let the other player know?

Or put a security "lock" on all PBEMs so that the game could not be messed with?

I'm not a computer person, so I have no idea if that's a major ordeal or not.

Major it is. Nothing is free, so IMHO it would be a shame to expend valuable programming resources on this. Instead of higher priority items.

Might as well as for Cheat Codes! I'll admit a save game editor would be useful for testing custom scenarios but, just the thought of Cheat Codes for AE, Uck! Maybe something like Harpoon III's game mode editor, where you run the game (Single Player only) in editor mode for next gen WITP/AE game engine could be looked at!
