The reinforcements that I am going to send (16 x 6" Guns and a Bn of Aus Militia +27 AV)
balance of 8th NZ bde out of Suva (+140 AV)
8th Marine Regt (+140 AV)
3rd Motor Bde (+140 Av )
2/11th Armoured Car regt (+40 AV)

Possibly one of the Militia Divs if I can get it up to snuff.

I also have 2 US Regts en route to Suva tro replace the NZ forces

I am sending 7 Flower Class Corvettes and one RN Destroyer to the West Coastto assist in ASW efforts

The sucess of my RCN led Support Group has made me realise I need to beef it up.

I really dont like that I have lost KB. It worries me

In other news as said above I expect 11th Indian Div to get retreated out of Singapore

In air battles over Rangoon my fighters managed a 1:1 exchange rate shooting down 9 Zeroes so I am pretty happy with that

The Vildebeeste stuck again with two more ships sunk.

I only had 4 of them left but they are achieving miracles thats 6 ships sunk so far whitch is a hell of a job.

I have another 4 in India but thats all thats left of these plucky little planes.

I would love another 30 or 40 of them the NZ Vincents would do nicely if I could jury rig a torpedo !!!!

OK 11th Indian Div was retreated and therefore is now weak but the rest of the army got out intact.

A TF is heading fro Balikpapan no idea whats in it but I am monitoring it from a distance.

With the reduction of Mersing its time to bug out for Singapore as fast as I can

All units are now in full retreat for the island - we will bow the causeway behind us and hope for the best !!!!

If I get time totally disrupted units will be pulled out and sent to India.

Japanese forces are advancing on Moulmien no idea who they are yet but I am watching

Java will probably be next A Japanese SNLF Company landed and fought it out with an Australian Indpt Conmpany and lost but Kavieng is not worth holding so I m puling them out

Had a bit more time to look around this morning in total Singapore has about 650 AV when everything is back on the island

c 200 from 11th Indian Div, 250 from 9th Indian Div with the balance from 8th Aus Div and the small Bns

of those units I will try to evac as much as Ican of 22nd Aus Bde its fought out with only 5 active AV left so its adding nothing

Added to the three Bird Bns it might be enough when rested to rebiuld 8th Aus Div - an outside chance but might be doable.

Going to think about it it certainly adding nothing to the resistance of MSingapore.

Fort levels are 3 and I have enough supplies.

Overall it will fall when the main body arrives its probably not enough in the Mersing force to take it on its own.

So we are looking two weeks at the outside

So somewhere around 20th Jan.

Reinforcemetns are starting to arrive with the first P40 Sqn arrriving in Australia to back up the 8 Buffalos of 488 Sqn RAF on PM and the 15 Buffalos of 243 Sqn at Darwin

31st PG is at tahiti with 75 P39D's amd will will move one sqn to Fiji and Pago Pago

22nd BG with 35 Marauders is nearly at Suva

My fall back line of Fiji/Pago Pago/Tahiti is almost ready to resit an attack I need more infantry but Marine Defence Bns are in place engineers and suppluies are off loading and I have a reasonable expectation of putting up a decent figh uif attacked

OK guys sorry for th elack of updates I had a family party yesterday then had to fly down to London.

About 3 or 4 turns have passed the gist of whats happend

1. IJN Subs still causing mayhem.
2. KB raids Brisbane and finds very little because I know Brisbane is to exposed. A few DM's are sunk en route to replenish and a convoy with 5th RAA Coastal Arty is attacked in passing - its not good as I was counting on that unit for PM so thats a poor start.
3. Malaya perimeter is contracting to Singapore alone. Not sure whether to try and evac under fire or not

OK guys back at it I have a cunning plan which may match the Light Brigade for fiasco but I want to try it !!!

Two days ago two Japanese Regiments attacked and captured Moulmien

I am not quite ready to give up on that city yet and I believe I can take em !!!

1st Burma Div and 5 Indpt Indian Bdes totalling about 850 AV total are going to attack accross river the two Japanese regiments

In accordance with this policy I sent in bombers today to try and damage and dirsupt the Japanese forces with little impact they were covered by the AVG which has returned to Rangoon.

In addition all of this covers the unloading of a 3 x AK supply convoy at Rangoon.

So I have three objectives

Attrit his AF
Try and retreat two japanese Regts
Get more supply into Burma.
Rock PZB back on his heels by successfully counter attacking.

Only time will tell if any of these actions are successfull.

I dont think he realises how strong I am in Burma and if I have even 1 regt of 7th Armoured Bde I would feel more confident - however needs must

8 Bdes of British , Burmese and Indian infantry are attacking for the very first time lets see how they do !!!!

p.s. PZB has committed 4th Div to Malaya with that committment that means 4 full IJA Divs in the line against me already......

Allowing that they will need to depack from strat mode so say 2 or 3 days then another 2 days to cross the straits I estimate at best Singapore will fall in c 7 days max.

So on or about 16th January. Any later and its a bonus....

4 divisions should have an AV of around 1300. Is that really enough?

Aye I only have 700 ish plus he has others following up from the Johore battles

Both the Aus Bdes are wrecked.

SSVF and FMSV are useless I evacced the Indpt Battalions as not being up to much in this kind of fight (one air attack targeting them and they are combat inneffective)

So overall when he attacks he will take it.

Not a lot more to say my attack goes in tomorrow then we will see

I am reorging my USAAF Bomb groups at present

I want 1 Heavy and 1 Medium Gp in India

at least 1 Heavy and 1heavy/Medium mixed Gp in Australia

and if possible 2 x Heavy/Medium Groups in CENTPAC

They will all be under strength but I want them in position and ready for whatever comes

Ok the attack failed which is dissapointing but its not all bad my units are that little bit more experienced and a little but higher morale and a little bit better 1:1 is not a total disaster...

I have another Indian Bde in reserve that is not yet complete and a Chinese Division nearing decent combat level both will be committed in support of this attack I want them retreated

Andy, as you may have noticed, while you might get decent AV, the experience of all Allied units is woeful.

Be very wary about commiting them too far forward.

Yup but by committing them in a fight like this I can get the xp up (hopefully)

44th 45th and 46th bdes are all woefull they were barely formed and I have rushed them to the front.

If I can get them involved in what would be a small fight here then maybe they can get some valuable combat experiece even if I dont win

Looking at it I was pretty nasty to these Indian bdes they are barely more than recruits hot out of the training camps without enough NCO's to teach them their trade - which hang on is more or less correct ;)

I need to be carefull as I dont want any retreats but a few weaks if I can get them pounding on two undersupplied Japanese Regts would be good.

I may even bring in some CA's to support the effort...with some NGS

Losses were actually quite light if I can get 7th Hussars in to support and some NGS then I might well end up winning this one

When Singapore falls the full weight of has AF will turn north at which time it will be right to boogie on back for the border....

Allied Shock attack

Hi Andy,

Wouldn’t it be better for you not to shock attack him in these circumstances? Deliberate attacks mean you’ll take far fewer losses and hits to your morale and fatigue, so over the next weeks/months, that’ll translate into a lot more attacks you launch overall, which equals a lot more experience gained in the end.

Also if you do force him out of the hex with a shock attack, he is not likely to return, so your chance to train up your rabble into something resembling a fighting force before his large combat divisions arrive will be lost.

Jim

4 divisions should have an AV of around 1300. Is that really enough?

4 IJA divs are more around 1700 av it seems. The IJA divs I´ve met so far all have more than 400 av each.

4 IJA Divs is MORE than enough to take out Singapore

His subs are getting annoying thats another big ship sunk may need to suspend west coast operations until the RN arrives

Those two RCN Corvettes I lost are badly needed now

Today forces of General Huttons Burma Corps drove superior Japanese forces out of Moulmien causing major losses on the enemy - this is the first time that Japanese forces have been defeated in this war and is viewed as a good sigh by the high command.

I am doing a little bit of evac by PBY at present from Singapore it will fall in a few days anyway so saving what I can

My estimate was 16th so here is hoping we can hold on until then

OK I have ended the early threat against Burma PZB will now regroup and come back with overwhelming force - or he will bypass and isolate...

PZB will bring a lot of force to Burma I had 900 AV with another 250 in reserve he will bring 2,000 I cannot stand against that now its time to do a vanishing act and dig in at Mandalay.

1st to evac will be 17th Indian Div which has 1 Bde already at Imphal the other two will now move to join it.

The Chinese 5th Army will dig in at Mandalay.

1st Burma Div will hold at Mandalay and the Indpt Indian Bdes will head for Akyab.

The Burma rifles will mask my front to give the appearance of defensive depth with 3 x AA Regt that I have brought in to support them and attrit his air force..

He has 2,000 AV at PI lets say he can find another 2,000 for Burma and say 2,000 to take the rest of the DEI SRA and South Pacific.

Allowing 2,000 AV for Burma given the experience levels of my troops will be a walkover so time to start prepping Mandalay

Andy

Thats a lot of airpower that PZB has I need to think how I can give the appearance of still being in Burma without actually being in Burma

When I look at that airpower I doubt anything I can do is hold in range I need time for my pilots to gain experience

Burma Corps has basically got 9 Bdes of decent infantry plus the BFF Bde and various Burma Rifles Bns

Plus the Chinese 5th Corps in support which is basically a weak Division.

My intent is to pull this force back as surrepticiciously as I can try and make him concentrate before he hits Burma.

The three Indpt Bdes will ultimately head towards the Akyab front
17th Indian Div will head to Imphal (one Bde Gp already there)
1st Burma Div will act as rearguard and pull back in the general direction of Imphal
5th Chinese Army will pull back in parallel with 1st Burma Div eventually heading for Ledo.

Smaller forces will support the Burma Div in its pull back trying to keep up the deception plan as long as possible.

To this end the AVG will fight it out over rangoon performing hit and run operations into Rangoon.

IRL when BURCORPS ended up in Assam it was a wreck - I want it fighting fit and ready for action after this plan is further along and I have a better idea as to what I got out of Singapore I will re formulate plans for defending India.

Ultimately I may sacrifice some smaller units to rebuild one of the Malaya Divs or to provide depth in my replacement pools.

PZB is not messing about I anticipate a nasty shock attack tomorrow.

But hey we are +1 day over my estimate so far and every day that passes a couple more companies of infantry are pulled out of Singapore

3,000 AV hurts though - I am definitly playing the shell game in Burma having seen that.

My decision to dump burma is not driven by the land I think if it was just about LCU's I would have a 50:50 chance of significant delay in Burma (if he didnt bypass) but with total air superiority I could not stand and thats the problem - I need to delay to let my AF get stronger and build the mutually supporting AF's I will need

Anyway lets see what happens next.

Attacks on PM have begun I am holding the two USAAF Bomb Groups (excl 1 Sqns) and the 4 Pursuit Sqns at Townsville for now

I have committed one P40 and A-24 Sqn to defend PM more will follow but I will rotate them.
