Hi all,

Yesterday was optionnal exam for me; to translate a text from english in french.
Far too easy ! as we use to say "fingers in the nose".
But this is in fact not good: there is a rating of the candidate, and as the text was really easy to handle, it could not give me an upper hand on the others...Results on 5th february.

Fingers crossed Eric!

Welcome ! So do you live up there in the land of the Grand Ole Opry ?

Yes, the Opry is in Nashville, about 40 miles from me.

Brrrrr, 10 degrees is very cold here. Yeah, I know you guys from the northern climates are used to these temps, but I moved down here from Upstate NY to get away from below freezing temps and 150+ inches of snow a year.

It is fun to watch these ID10Ts drive in snow down here...

The fact that we MIGHT get an inch or so of snow here sends folks to the grocery store to stock up !

Then again we have no real snow equipment so any accumulation of snow and ice creates some traffic snarls.

Folks stock up here at the grocery store as well when an inch is mentioned which is crazy because we get plenty of snow up here in New England it always amazes me that people freak out when snow is mentioned. Maybe they think they will be trapped inside there house for weeks if its really bad of course if the power goes out how are they gonna cook that food break up the furniture and start a fire

Hi all,

We had snow this night as well to combined total of 20+ cm of snow (that's about 8-9 inches)... but now there is massive thawing at very rapid rate...

We had snow and then it froze. More snow on the way later today, tomorrow and Sunday.

Had to help a lady this morning who'd fallen and bust something in her arm, she was in such pain and laying on the ice too can't have helped. Fortunately some kind souls donated coats to help keep her warm and we put a folded up scarf under her head.

Simon, do you guys use winter / summer sets of tires or you don't change it at all (here in Central Europe the change in late fall to winter tires is almost mandatory and almost nobody is bold enough to try to drive in the winter using summer tires)?

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S.
Good Samaritan Simon helped - that was very nice!

BTW, when we were in Vienna 3 weeks ago, one old man also fell down on main (and most expensive) street there when exiting some exclusive shop - we helped him soften the fall (he fell just in front of us) and, luckily for him, my doctor wife, who's specialized in first aid, just managed to prevent his head hitting ground in very last second...

The American newspapers have had a number of articles describing the severe winter that our European threaderen are experiencing. Sounds 'ahistorically' cold. Snow in Londinium? How often does that happen?

Good on you for helping a fellow passerby, Simon.

Snow on top of ice-what could possibly go wrong with the commute there? We've got parking lots (and some side streets) with sheets of black ice. Nasty, nasty, nasty stuff.

Once the rain and fog are eliminated whatever remains, however imporbable, must be the snow.

We have about an inch of snow in our forecast overnight tonight.  Plenty to make things "interesting" on Friday morning around here.

just about to start my first 2x2x game. Playing the allied side and I get everything that isn't American. I'm not very cunning and I don't have a plan.

4 to 6 inch of snow expected this night. Total mess also expected, with lack of bus/tramway/train in our area. Not sure i could go to work, or even worse, come back

Survive, and tie up as much of the Japanese military as you can whilst the US player grabs all the glory and fights his way to Tokyo

No, we don't change tyres. Nobody did in Chicago either, that's what ploughs and salters are for.

The goal should be to not drive in snow but on the ploughed and salted roads.

I see... that's why UK is paralized by few inches of snow...

We used to do it on the airfield, there was an empty area on the opposite side of the runway from my old place. A big area of snow where you could practice how to deal with sliding and such. Nothing official, but it was on the way home for us, so an early finish would usually mean a few guys out there.

It snowed when I was on the Galatea (F18) somewhere out in the Atlantic. Fortunately it didnt affect my commute to work.

Where I live, it's about 8 inches of snow in places. In the northern part of the country they've had as much as 3 to 4 feet.
