Being unable to count properly at your age isn't meritorious.

I'm reminded of the Groucho Marx (?) line about "never wanting to be a member of any organization that would allow him to be a part of it..."

He would have fit right in here, which means of course that he wouldn't have.

First emergency as a parent   Joshua is up at the hospital in Oxford with a hernia, he's going to be operated on either tomorrow or Saturday.  Poor wee chap's been out of sorts all day and now Clare's upset because she didn't notice before I did.

Not sure what he's been lifting to give himself a hernia though...

No because:
A) I don't have a beer fridge (or any beer)
B) Er, I think A covers it

It was the quickest visit I've ever had to A&E, (when we finally got there after braving the retards who seems to come out whenever it snows in the UK) between checking in and being seen by the surgeon was 10 minutes. Who says the NHS doesn't work Probably because they were preparing to operate tonight if he'd needed it.

From what I was told Joshua's isn't serious, they're fairly common in babies which is a good thing in a way. They can cause problems in certain circumstances, but the surgeon said that the fact he was able to push it back in is a good thing. They were expecting it to be far worse than it was which was why they were ready for us when we got there.

I was once told there's no such thing as a stupid question btw

Thats very good. The reason I ask is that I just cant imagine how a newborn can exert himself so much.

My youngest brother had a similar thing, although he was almost a year old when it happened.  At least we know it's nothing life-threatening or serious in the long term although it's obviously been painful for him today.

There's a certain satisfaction from being a big fan of the last place team in the league. It's kind of like playing Japan from '43 on.

Generally speaking, infant hernias would be more related to their anatomical 'deficits' coming out of the starting gates. Older humans would be more likely to have exertional or traumatic hernias.
