Maybe this has been suggested before but...

I have read several times that Matrix will not release a save game editor, but what about saving a game as a scenario?
It is not a saved game and can be edited with the regular editor. No risk of PBEM cheating because it is not a saved game.
The code to save as a scenario should not be too difficult as the information in a save game file will be very close to a scenario file, if not nearly identical.

This would be a great way to get the AI "retuned" in the late game.
Save a late game as a scenario file, email it off to a friend who is willing to program some AI moves, and send it back to you.

OR post a scenario file of one of your games with a unique or challenging situation.

OR save your favorite late game as a scenario to edit to try out different situations.

iirc, someone in the old days had this idea for UV and then WITP.

Best guess, is it is not happening anytime soon.

Nice ideas. I also doubt if it is going to get anywhere. Now it might be possible to take a PBEM game, save it as a scenario and ....
